He has developed into a damn fine centre forward and with Van Persey still to come back Arsenal look a real contender.

We could'a been a contender

Yeah he looking like a very good player - he cost them around 5mill??

£7m.

He looked terrible for two years and has suddenly started scoring. I wonder what could happen if we showed similar patient with our players.

Yeah i used to think he was a donkey, sort of a lesser Kanu. Was way off there!

Fee was supposedly around £3m. Scored 4 times for Arsenal in 2005-06 having signed in January, 12 goals the following season has hasnt been able to stop scoring this season.

I guess he took a bit of time to adapt and lived in Henrys shadow too but has been on fire since Henry left. So much so that you would say that Arsenal havent missed the fact that their best player left in the summer.

his celebrations are better than henry's. ronaldo has taken on the mantle of very good player, horribly arrogant celebrations.

They're horrible aren't they?

Really has fallen completely in love with the hype around him. If any of his teammates are true friends of his, they'd have a word and slap him the next time he does it.

In relation to Adebayor, i always thought it was very clear he'd go on to be a good player.

Never looked like a donkey to me.

for me hes an odd one. doesnt really look like hes good enough like but to be fair he finds the back of the net fairly often. i guess hes a bit of a crouch in some ways.

love the story of how he learnt to head the ball. apparently he used to suspend a football from the roof with piece of string and every time he could made contact hed shorten the string. like a fooking salmon innit ;)

It's not (just) patience. It's knowing the player you are buying and what you intend to do with that player over time, what attributes make them right for you, and putting that plan into action. I think his technique may well have been honed or improved, but he has given Wenger the kind of player he saw in Drogba.

Our version would be Crouch, but Crouch has none of the pace (Adebayor aint express but he's quick enough), dynamism or power, and nothing like the aerial ability, never did, never will. Marseille got Drogba for something like £4m, he had all the tools, it's about spotting the potential and being able to develop it, or waiting for someone to do it for you and having to pay top dollars you may not be able to.

it annoys me that wenger turns his dross into decent players. Remember Flamini looking like an idiot? Adebadour (sp?) is just another example of a player that took time to settle and then became a star. hleb?

Its unbelievable how well Wenger does this.

Aye

He is a top class player, another stoke of genius by Wenger.

He is just having a great season after two poor ones, just like Benjani, yet no one is calling redknapp a genius!

Is that just being humourous? He's shown consistent improvement since being bought in the window two years back, getting more of a role as he adapted and Henry spent more time out, eventually leaving.

not really, he is a very good player, and offers something that arsenal have lacked in the past, but he is just having a season where everything he does seem to end in a goal (like Benjani), after looking like a donkey for the first two seasons he has been in england

He's never looked a donkey though, just a little rougher around the edges than he looks this season.

Now Hleb - there's a player who genuinely did look s**** before suddenly looking great this year.

Really dont know about the donkey bit, although I thought he was just a big lad when they signed him. He didn't impress me much when he had a run out against us for Monaco, didn't seem to know what he doing. Then was a moment for Arsenal in the run in a few weeks after he joined, when they were losing to Spurs in a vital game for the last CL spot where he set up Henry after a great bit of skill down the left, didn't think he could do that. He was then very good in the WC and has continued to get better, 12 in his first full season, over 20 this, and holding up the ball and linking play superbly.

Benjani just never scored much for Pompey apart from a couple of months at the start of the season, he'd gone back to being quite dry for a good number of weeks before they sold him on, not sure their situations are comparable.

His turned into one of the premierships best strikers.....he was beyond poor his first two seasons...maybe lurking in henrys shadow...but i remem watching him many times and seeing him miss the easiest chances....when arsenal played portsmouth last season away in a 1-1 draw he missed 3 six yard tap ins!! at that point i washed my hands of him and wrote him as s****!!! another late developer and anything gem unearthed by wenger

Its that old word patience again.

Something we as fans seem short of at the moment

something all fans are short of these days. which yet again brings us back to sky sports. . .
