Spiblish Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Times article Martin Samuel must have been one of the journos Rafa referred to the other day - still magaes to have a dig even in an article about Fat Sam!!! Certainly, the manager wanted funds to improve his team for the second half of the season and, if this request was refused, may have taken it as an implicit lack of support, an indication that he was on his way out and would be allowed only to limp to the end of the season — a dead man walking, as Rafael Benítez, the similarly threatened Liverpool manager, would have it — when he would be replaced by a manager of Ashley’s choosing.

Nebraska Red Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 it's just another example of the shoddy journalism that is rife all over the world right now. writers don't do any investigations, they just read rumors on the web or make things up,and then flesh them out into something that has the appearance of being factual. these fabrications are picked up by other media sharks and suddenly become fact and not fiction. the target of the fabrication is than placed in a situation where they have to comment on these things in public or face a media grilling if they choose "no comment." it happens over here all the time and it drives me up the wall to see journalists getting away with this crap. it happens in all walks of life, sport, politics and business especially,
beejay Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 With the incessant backstabbing endured by Rafa mainly from the press at the moment I thought the following article from a fan's perspective fairly reflects the consensus of opinion from the match-going supporters : http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/sport/...64375-20337865/ If anyone has G or H's e-mail address, it is well worth forwarding on.

Guest Snorky Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 OK - Can you handle the truth ? This has been engineered by Klinsmann and his agent to ensure he got the Bayern Munich job. By 'releasing' the news that he was in the running for the Liverpool job it forced Bayern's hand. It's no coincidence that Hitzfeld is staying on until the end of the season. Klinsmann was never in the running for the Liverpool job. Rafa is as safe as possible at the moment, the only thing the club are guilty of is their annoying silence over the media frenzy about Rafa, but let's look back in history - the club have rarely commented on media rumours. It will die down in the next few days/weeks, but get ready for Mourinho stories towards the end of the year.
gazza Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 It doesnt end there... Yet when klinsman was asked why he had chosen Bayern over the Premier League, he replied: "Because I did not have any offers from England." Still, the scent of blood is still in the air for most of the pr*cks, hence their relentless bile. As Snorky has said I don't think he was ever in the running. I have been frustrated by the silence from the club and have aired views re this, however part of me now thinks they are maybe playing this right at the moment. Don't respond to the $hit and it will eventually go away if and when results pick up. Still not sure what the hell Rafa has done to wind them up mind, cos the way some are pursuing him is embarrasing. It reminds me of the Gerrard to Chelsea saga. After all it was just a matter of time till he went there wasn't it?
MFletcher Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 It doesnt end there... That will be the journalist's way of covering his tracks. "I said Klinsmann was going to get the job. They did offer it to him, but he rejected it. So I was right." I'm amazed that some of them are still in jobs.
Nebraska Red Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 can't we just ban some of these t***s from ever being at Anfield? let's get the Merseyside plod to tow their cars every time they show up or find some other way of pissing them off.
David Hodgson Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Oh, so it's all been a bad dream. G & H never had and definitely don't have any intention of sacking Rafa. It's all a media fiction, which even Rafa himself has shown signs of falling for at times. Cos really, our loveable American owners are about to back Rafa with the millions promised, offer him a new contract, and get the build of the new stadium on site. And all without saddling the club with debt, as they so clearly promised in April last year. Of course, it's obvious that any notion that G & H would be sounding out potential new managers must be total nonsense. I, for one, will never read another newspaper again..... until they print stories that I like the sound of... then I might go back to them....for a bit.

Kite Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 The Mail in particular seems to be pushing an agenda if you compare it's use of Klinsman quotes with other reports: The Mail ".. it emerged that Jurgen Klinsmann was offered the Liverpool manager's job .. Klinsmann did his best to play down the Liverpool link, but he smiled broadly when asked about any approaches from England. He said: "There have been offers but I was happy to accept Bayern's." Direct quote 'I had some offers' but I wanted Bayern, inevitable link to he got an offer from Liverpool. Whereas today's Daily post article has also direct quotes from Klinsman: “I did not have any offers from England,” said the German, ... Bayern is the number one club in this country and I had a lot of other options, but this was by far the best offer. The Mail, for some reason, decides to leave out the telling phrase: 'I received no offers from England'?

ali Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Mourinho in the frame for LiverpoolBy BOB CASS - Last updated at 22:48pm on 12th January 2008 Mail on Sunday Jose Mourinho is a shock contender for Liverpool manager following confirmation of The Mail on Sunday's revelation six weeks ago that Jurgen Klinsmann had been offered Rafa Benitez's job at Anfield. The former Chelsea manager has made it known to the Liverpool hierarchy that he would be very interested in taking over if they decided to dispense with the services of the Spaniard, who is under pressure despite being allowed to spend £6.5 million on Martin Skrtel last week, a club record for a defender. Mourinho has a long-held affection for Liverpool and believes he can end the team's 19-season wait to win the league title. Although Liverpool supporters are still backing Benitez, the Portuguese Mourinho — who has been linked with Barcelona and AC Milan since he turned down the chance to manage England — would be a popular choice with the Kop if the job became available.
