While I like having a young team, I think we need a couple of older players.

Most players we have been linked with are 25 or younger, I think we need a couple of 28-29 year olds with experience and a bit of malice.

Not saying we have to sign these players, but players like Deco, Diego Milito, Henry, Cannavaro, Emerson, Seedorf who have played in various leagues and have that je nai sais quoi that makes them winners.

I don't see this as a problem. We've already got Finnan, Riise, Carra, Gerrard, Alonso & Crouch...plenty experience there. Hyypia, Garcia, Kewell & Bellamy are still Liverpool players too.

Any new players will be gelling in to a team with plenty of experience in it.

The mix is pretty good - Rafa has done a top job in blending youth with experience - but Zenden & Fowler moving on may have left some room for a veteran on a free.

1st team squad 2007-8

Young (18-23) : Carson, Agger, Sissoko, Mascherano, Leto, Lucas, Torres

In Prime (24-29) : Reina, Arbeloa, Riise, Aurelio, Kewell, Gerrard, Carragher, Alonso, Benayoun, Pennant, Crouch, Kuyt

Experienced : (30-) : Hyypia, Finnan, ?????

Thing is, a lot of players now are peaking well before the previous age of 28. Owen, Ronaldo (proper), probably Rooney, Fowler, Duff, Kewell, Shearer, Raul and Shevchenko to name a few.

23 is the new 28

Owen had major injuries, as did Fowler, Duff and Kewell.

Shearer moved to a s*** team, he was just as effective at 28 as he was at 23 (probably more so) he just had s*** players around him, he scored 37 goals in all competitions (internationals included) in the 99/00 season when he was 29/30.

Raul I will give you, but Shevchenko was still the best in Europe at 29. He'd still be the best in Europe if he had stayed with Milan. You don't become a bad player over the course of a summer, Chelsea's style of football doesn't suit him that's all. I'd love to sign him.

I think we need a player in his 30's, not in his late 20's. Yes, we have Hyypia but he hasn't won a title. I think there's only Momo who has won a league title. Most of our recent cup triumphs have come with a Gary Mac, Babbel, Hamann in the squad. Players with great experience.

It's not a must but something i'd like to see happen.

Maybe it's just an inspired signing we need.

Bernd Schneider?

I just did a search to see how long he's got left on his contract (it runs until 2009) and saw that Bernd Schuster said a few days ago that Real Madrid could with a player like him. I think we probably could too.

honestly i can't see how Shevchenko suits our playing style. true, he has supreme technical skills and is a world-class finisher but his lack of pace and strength makes him hard to revive in most teams (except arsenal maybe) in the epl i think...
