magneto Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 What are his technical flaws? He bagged them in for Blackburn, why not for LFC? He showed glimpses of greatness when playing against Wigan, but even though he scored a few goals now and then, I still feel if given some proper service, he might still come right (even though it seems he's off to West Ham).
alias75 Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I think he did pretty good in his first season, the question is he good enough to play for a top 4 side or is he always going to look good in a 2nd tier team but not quite good enough for the real top level. If we can make 3 or 4 million on him in 1 year and that money can be used to get someone like Torres it makes sense to let him go. That said if we didnt need to sell him i think hes a very good 3rd of 4th choice striker.
David Hodgson Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 What are his technical flaws? He bagged them in for Blackburn, why not for LFC? He showed glimpses of greatness when playing against Wigan, but even though he scored a few goals now and then, I still feel if given some proper service, he might still come right (even though it seems he's off to West Ham). I wasn't unhappy with Bellamy last season, and believe there could be more to come from him. If transfer funds don't permit the buying of proven world class strikers (of the 25m plus variety) then I don't see the point in axing Bellamy. Most forwards who could be available for under the £16m wouldn't necessarily represent an improvement on Bellamy.
Benitez Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 apart from the golf thing, I didn't see much hint of an attitude problem, so I dunno why that is an aside I thought that was a good side of him last year - the fact he did get on with things, and knuckle down and fit in. Middle of last season, out of him and Pennant, I probably would have wanted Bellamy to stay on, but by the end of the season, it's Pennant that I wanted to stay on, he really started to impress me. I'd be dissapointed if Pennant went now, whereas I'd really not that bothered either way if Bellamy went. I guess he was unlucky with injuries, but that is something that'll never change, he's always had injury problems. He also suffered from what seems a constant problem for Liverpool strikers - missing way to many chances. That is what's infuriating with him. Out of our strikers, it's only Crouchy that I'd really be feced off if he was sold. Bellamy - take him or leave him really! As an option he's ok, but he's not good enough to really lead this team from the front.
mooks Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I'll tell you one thing, if it's true Rafa has to sell before he can buy, we probably should hold out for about £12 million for CB. I wouldn't see the point of selling Bellamy for £8 million and bringing Forlan in for £16 million. May as well keep Bellamy, who I think can do better than last season where he had the court case hanging over him for the first part.
Magic8Ball Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Bellamy is an example of what I worry about when people mention Bent etc. He's great for a mid table team but not for a top 4 sideThis is partly because of the way we play and what Rafa expects in terms of team contribution but its also because teams set out to defend against us more against mid table opposition other teams fancy their chances and attack, but against the top 4/5 teams defend. So when people point to a great record for strikers, I always ask myself is their game based on pace, guile, or strength; what's their game brain like etc Bellamy's game is based on pace and lots of running, strikers will need more than that to make it big at Liverpool
Billy Dane Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Bellamy = big fish in a small pond type player. If we could bring in Owen instead, as suggested, great piece of business from Rafa.
magneto Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 Im just worried about Owen's injury record of late. 2 major injuries back to back.
Cobs Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Im just worried about Owen's injury record of late. 2 major injuries back to back.so you give him a medical before you sign him
Cobs Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Anyway, this is a Bellamy topic. Thanks he broke his metatarsal everyone who is anyone these days has broken their metatarsal - Gerrard, Beckham, Rooney's done it twice (=injury prone ?), Danny Murphy, Ashley Cole, even Gary Neville managed it all made a full recovery. His cruciate is obviously more serious but he'd hardly be the first player to come back from one of them either e.g. RvN
Guest Kaizer Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Poor finisher and too many good moves breaks down because Bellamy is offside.
Billy Dane Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Poor finisher and too many good moves breaks down because Bellamy is offside. I'm sorry, I'm not having that. The "intelligent football experts" on here we're all saying at the beginning of the season that Bellamy was an intelligent player and wouldn't fall into the same trap as Cisse and blindly run offside on a regular basis.
Bailo Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Poor finisher and too many good moves breaks down because Bellamy is offside.b******s. If Bellamy is still here next season I won't be unhappy. Not got a problem with him, his form suffered when he was used more and more as a sub.
matty Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I think he raises his head too quickly at the start of the upswing, resulting in a tendency to slice. Apart from that, his short game is good.
Ostrich Man Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 a despicable c***.....whats more a despicable c*** who you all know isnt good enough to be a liverpool player of any merit.
Falconhoof Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 a despicable c***.....whats more a despicable c*** who you all know isnt good enough to be a liverpool player of any merit. He's no more despicable than Rooney or Rio Ferdinand. I could forgive him that, what i'm not so keen on is his lack of finishing and his running into blind alleys like he's the new Milan Baros.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 a despicable c***.....whats more a despicable c*** who you all know isnt good enough to be a liverpool player of any merit. when on form, he is good enough. He hasn't maintained a high enough level over the course of a season. He isn't the only who os guilty of that, but someone needs to be shipped out.
Guest Kaizer Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I'm sorry, I'm not having that. The "intelligent football experts" on here we're all saying at the beginning of the season that Bellamy was an intelligent player and wouldn't fall into the same trap as Cisse and blindly run offside on a regular basis. These are the official stats for players caught off side in the PL. 1 McCarthy (Blackburn) 66 2 Bellamy (Liverpool) 57 3 Bent (Charlton) 56 4 Berbatov (Tottenham) 51 5 Drogba (Chelsea) 43 6 Corradi (Man City) 40 7 Vassell (Man City) 40 8 Yakubu (Middlesbrough) 39 9 Adebayor (Arsenal) 38 10 Anelka (Bolton) 38 And to make it even worse compare the goals scored and minutes played for the players surrounding Bellamy in this list.
