Mauro Pederzoli-Transfer market consultant.

Below is an article I found on calciomercato.com. Was translating it when IE crashed for me, but here is what is said in a nutshell:

1. This Pederzoli is a transfer market consultant for Liverpool. Anyone ever heard of this?

2. Liverpool are interested in Trezeguet, however they will never include Alonso in a deal to bring him to Anfield as Xabi is considered to be fundamental to Rafa's plans.

3. Zenden has been given permission to talk to other clubs by Rafa. Roma are interested and he may end up in Italy. Liverpool may however still choose to sign him on on a new deal.

4. Liverpool have followed Mancini closely over the last year, however the interest has cooled since Pennant's performances have improved and Pennant seems to have convinced the Liverpool management that he is good enough.

5. Sissoko to Juventus is very unlikely. The main reasons being that:

i. The price would possibly too high for Juventus seeing that the English Premier League is in a much better financial position than most other leagues.

ii. It is Liverpool's intention to strengthen the squad and not to sell players.

So we don't want to buy the excellent Mancini because we have Pennant at RM who is OK ish. Find that perplexing.

same here, what if Pennant gets suspended etc Surely we would still be interested in Mancini even with Hammil and Andersen in the wings ;)

Actually (and strangely for calciomercato.com) there seems to be an element of truth in this. Mauro Pederzoli was the General Manager - and in Italy it is the GM who decides who to buy and sell - for a couple of Italian clubs (Brescia and Cagliari) who is now one of Liverpool's chief scouts along with Eduardo Macia. Found this piece on Il Giornale where he describes how he met Benitez when he was still a coach at Extremadura and kept in touch until being asked to join the scouting department.

If Rafa thinks Pennant is good enough to cool interest in Mancini, then we are f***ed.

I would not take the Mancini quotes literally. I think it may have been a veiled message to Roma stating "We are interested but we have other options, some already at the club. Do not try to rip us off."
