bigdave50uk Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Reading the papers his weekend, there are yet more stories linking Bellamy with an exit from the club. Normally I wouldn't pay to much attention to these stories, however even bascombe has joined in. In the pink bascombe says "Benitez will be looking for another speed king to replace Bellamy, who looks destined for villa at a significant profit". I havent got a direct link for this as the stories from the echo on a Saturday never appear online. I think that if we do sign a big money striker, like villa, eto'o, or n e other. Then I cant see Bellamy getting many games next season. However whoever we do sign will need to have pace, which is vital for tricky away games. So what are your thoughts should we keep him, or get rid
Stevie H Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 depends on who we sign dunnit? if we sign an eto'o or villa and get a big bid for bellamy then i can see rafa selling. still don't think rafa's too happy about the golf club thing, even if it was on riise.
Dublinred4ever Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I think we'd be mad to sell him. He's quick very clever on the ball and makes things happen. I'd get rid of Kuyt before Bellamy
McBain Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Bascombe also says we're looking at Anelka in that article doesn't he? I think a mid level signing like that is far more likely than any talk of Eto'o or Villa. The idea of us getting either of those is fanciful in the extreme
kacangpool Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 every team has a c*nt player. we deserve one too, bellamy can be devastating when he feels like it.

I think a mid level signing like that is far more likely than any talk of Eto'o or Villa. The idea of us getting either of those is fanciful in the extreme Why? We were able to afford that type of player before Hicks and Gillett came in. There'll be significantly more money available this summer.
Guz Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I like Bellamy because he's the only one of our forwards with a bit of pace and one of the few players who is a snarling, snidey c*** who gives his all and is an a*** to play against (and with probably sometimes). Given that Kuyt and Bellamy can both play 'wide', all 4 (Crouch, Kuyt, Voronin and Bellamy) are more '2nd strikers' and the biggest areas of concern in the side are wide and getting a goalscorer up front, it'll be really interesting to see who we sign.
McBain Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 (edited) Why? We were able to afford that type of player before Hicks and Gillett came in. There'll be significantly more money available this summer. We were able to afford Eto'o before this summer? He'd cost about 30 odd million. Which i doubt we'll be able to afford even now. I think a lot of people are gonna be disappointed this summer. I dont see us going out and spending anywhere near as much as many expect Edit. Unless you mean we could afford an Anelka before this summer. Which we could I agree. Edited April 22, 2007 by Mcbain
Guest Linton Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I think the only forward we should get rid of is Fowler. And he will probably leave. We need a world class addition and Eto'o would be my first choice.

I still can't understand the Voronin signing, as Bellamy is far superior in every single aspect. I'd keep Crouch, Bellamy and Kuyt and one more top notch striker needed. HK Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I'd get rid of Kuyt before Bellamy I agree. Not because he is a better player than Kyut but because he offers a very different option. A stiker who can dribble at speed and high work rate must be an enticing option for Benitez.
kop205 Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 There'll be significantly more money available this summer. Will there? We spent the best of 30m last summer, plus whatever Macherano and Arbeloa cost us in January. I'm really not certain Rafa will be given that much more. As for the original post, you've answered your own question. It all depends on who comes in.
RafaShanks Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I think Dirk will be awesome for us next season. All he needs to do is add goals to his phenomenal work rate.

psl Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I don't think he'll be here next season. I assume that refers to Bellamy and not Kuyt?
McBain Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Isn't replacing Bellamy with Anelka a sideways move in the extreme Backwards. Though i rate Anelka
Guest Snorky Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I assume that refers to Bellamy and not Kuyt? your assumptions are correct.
lfc003 Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 If we can get a profit on him i'd snap Villa's hands off. Never rated Bellamy that highly and although he is a different option and the rest of our strikers i dont think he's an outstanding option to have.
yellow jumper Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Isn't replacing Bellamy with Anelka a sideways move in the extreme personality or ability? think anelka's a better player than bellamy to be honest, more of a knob though.
Ombudsam Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 personality or ability? think anelka's a better player than bellamy to be honest, more of a knob though. I was thinking the whole package. I like you think Anelka has more ability but i don't think it would move us on that much
Cooger Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Anelka is wasted in that Bolton team. He is still a top, top striker and would score many goals for us. However not too many strikers with the pace of Bellamy would work as hard as he does. I like Bellamy and feel he is a good all round striker. Feel he has done enough to stay as he has been great since the court case has finished. Just a shame injuries are hindering his time on the field.
Bailo Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Don't understand selling Bellamy, he's had far more good games than bad.
