Hulse went to the Liverpool dressing room after the game to apologise for booting Crouchy.

Decent of him! It was just one of them things really as far as I could see, sure it was a nasty injury, but chit happens, and no great fuss was done of it after, no moaning from the manager or players.

Sheffield United striker Rob Hulse has been forgiven for leaving Peter Crouch with a broken nose and requiring several stitches in a head wound on Saturday.

In the aftermath of the incident involving John Terry during the Carling Cup final on Sunday, Hulse's accidental kick in the face of Liverpool striker Crouch in United's 4-0 defeat at Anfield was almost forgotten.

Yet the two situations were virtually identical as Chelsea captain Terry and Crouch both bravely stooped to head a low ball in the penalty area, only to be booted in the head.

After being caught by Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby in Chelsea's 2-1 win at the Millennium Stadium, Terry was knocked unconscious and swallowed his tongue before later making a full recovery.

Crouch, though, was left with blood streaming down his face from his wounds which mean he is unlikely to play any part in the Reds' mouthwatering clash with Manchester United on Saturday.

A remorseful Hulse said: "You never like to see anything like that.

"The ball has come in from the corner and he has dipped down to head the ball in, but as I've gone to volley it away, I've hit the ball and his head at the same time.

"I could see straight away he was quite badly injured, and of course he was stretchered off.

"I went to the Liverpool dressing room after the game to go and see him, but he had gone.

"I spoke to the backroom staff and they said not to worry, that it wasn't a problem. It was just one of those things in football, and that Peter was fine."

Applauding the bravery of both Crouch and Terry, Hulse told BladesWorld: "It shows passion that a player is willing to put his head into certain areas to score.

"As a fan you want to see that. You don't want to see people ducking out of things.

"Obviously what happened is not nice to see, but unfortunately that is the way it is in football. You run the risk of taking knocks like that."

A few yards out of your own box and refusing to get rid of it incase you hurt the attacker would be ridiculous so Hulse and Diaby did no wrong..

Nice of him to apologise though

I was in the year above Rob Hulse at school and my mate, Wash, gave him a black eye once. He used to have a very punchable face.

He was in the same year as Mark Cueto who plays Rugby.

We need a Sheffield United/Sale Sharks legends spotting thread.

and I thought I was the only bitter arl beggar on here. :D:D

I thought it was just one of those unlucky incidents that happen in the box. Crouchy was quite low trying to head the ball..hulse was trying to clear it..both were watching the ball. Didn't think Hulse's foot was that high for English footie...abroad maybe but not here.

i don't think it was dangerous play at all - hulse had every right to try and kick it away

If he'd have done it in the centre circle, it would have been a free kick. Crouch was not stooping that low, still around chest height.

It was dangerous play.

any decent defender would and should go for a ball like that id be very upset if one of our defenders pulled out of one
