floyd the barber Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 again, yet another superb performance...the way he holds the ball up and brings others into play is superb, his touch and balance is unbelievable for a such a tall guy. I stand by what i said when we signed him, he is the english ibrahimovich...excellent on the floor, brilliant technique but horrible in the air for a man of his height. Is there anyone out there still to be convinced by him? Now if only he could head the ball
Guest Kev Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Is there anyone out there still to be convinced by him? Me, still not taken to him.
Guest JV Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Me, still not taken to him.is it because hes got a sponge head?
floyd the barber Posted January 21, 2007 Author Posted January 21, 2007 (edited) that pull down and shot in the 2nd half was henry-esque....amazing technique.. Think he has been a stunning buy for us...and shows noticeable improvement with every passing game ( a factor in his whole career).....who knows how good he could be in a couple of seasons... now........................................... if only he could head the ball ;) Edited January 21, 2007 by Winding Wheel
Guest Kev Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 is it because hes got a sponge head? Partly yes, plus a number of other things like actual physical strength. I know Essien possibly fouled him, but he should have been stronger.
Sheida V Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 I agree, it is really amazing how much he's improved. Before he signed you could see he was a good player, but now he has really taken it to another level. The first time I saw him play he just looked like he had no qualities other than being tall, that was a long time ago, though.
Guz Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Chelsea were completely scared of him in the first half which meant he could win the ball un contested on a few occasions (1st goal to an extent). I still think we can get more out of him if we didn't resort to long balls too early. I remember at Charlton away last year, all he (and morientes) had was long ball after long ball. He's useless like that but he's a good player when we get the ball on the floor and start passing it around at a high tempo and allow him to link the midfield/attack and bring others into play before moving into space.
Michael Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 I think he has justified the £7m we paid for him, but if the rumoured £12m from Newcastle were offered, I would take it.

I don't think he would have played if Terry was fit.

floyd the barber Posted January 21, 2007 Author Posted January 21, 2007 and what would the 12million buy you? someone with a better strike rate than crouch this season? doubt it.....
_00_deathscar Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 is older than Crouchie. Anyways we do have a player who can head the ball as well, he's just out injured That Kewell's not bad at heading either...
anfield Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 If young is worth 9 million then Crouch has to be worth 15 million plus. He is the main England striker after all........I don't like all the long balls that go for his sponge head when he's on but thats hardly his fault
_00_deathscar Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 To be fair, he wins his fair share of knockdowns and knock ons. It's just when he's got to get them on target that he's utter pish...well he gets them on target alright...
Guest mick the baker Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Crouchy gets his fair share of criticism, but henever shirks a challenge and gives 110%, yes he needs to improve his heading, but his touch and ability to bring players in our first rate, newcastle can stick their 12 mill, peter is going nowhere.
Maldini Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 The problem isn't with his heading technique, he has scored great headers in the past, it's in the timing of his runs. He often goes too early and so ends up ahead of the ball and has to come away from goal to make contact, it's incredibly hard to generate any power when moving away from goal.
Guest kring Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Partly yes, plus a number of other things like actual physical strength. I know Essien possibly fouled him, but he should have been stronger. He's hanging in the air...his legs are taken away under him....how the f*** would it help if he had been any stronger???
Dule Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 With the two he played against today in the backline, he should have had a hatrick, end of. I was not to impressed by his overall contribution. P.S If you took away the goal from Kuyt, he still would have been better.
surf Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 and what would the 12million buy you? Michael Owen
Chili Palmer Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 I like him, he is a good solid premiership player that will always be useful in the squad, bu, if we are to take the next step we probably need more quality.
McBain Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 I think he has justified the £7m we paid for him, but if the rumoured £12m from Newcastle were offered, I would take it. Pretty much how i feel I dont see anything happening this window but i could see it maybe happening in the summer
RafaShanks Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Me, still not taken to him. Have to agree unfortunately. Is a grafter, but yesterday showed again how s**** he is in the air and his lack of physical presence for his height.
Benitez Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Partly yes, plus a number of other things like actual physical strength. I know Essien possibly fouled him, but he should have been stronger. The 'physical strength' thing is ironic by the way, but I won't mention why, don't want to upset you again He's a good player, he's done very well for us, I can't understand the logic of a Liverpool fan who hasn't taken to him. I think it's a mental block on their behalf, nothing to do with Crouchie, he could score 20 goals this season and be one of our best players, and it wouldn't change a thing. Not saying he has to be your new favourite player, and I don't mean you have to hail him as a great, cos he isn't, but he does his job very well. He won most over a long time ago. It just seems to be a few numptie kids here that don't like him now, and the reason they don't like him is cos he doesn't fit into their fashionable image of a footballer.
Guest sniffer Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 One thing is for sure. He ain't no Toshack in the air. His general allround play is pretty good overall but his lack of aerial ability does show itself when we are pressuring the away goal. As I said yesterday, I thought there was an impressive pickup in attacking ability the last five minutes when Bellamy came on. When Crouch is the striker, everything seems to slow down.
