2 things are gonna happen, that are simply not factored in the proposed takeover and subsequent running of the club

1. Our new overlords will fall in love with the club - as long as we keep the 'easy easy' and 'who are ya' element out, it's obvious that they will soon form a close personal attachment to the club; If I were Moores and Parry, I'd be getting them to watch the Barca home leg on the Kop - know what I mean? the atmosphere and general experience varies vastly depending on where you sit and how you plan your day - put 'em in the Kop for this one!

2. Brand Dubai: think about it - a kingdom that is growing at an exponential rate. What do we think about it? we think about a man made paradise, synonomous with buy-to-let investment and holidays. But now, people will associate it with Liverpool FC - a much bigger and more famous brand then Dubai itself. And this is fantastic for Dubai. It's not just the club they are buying, put the reflected PR on their own kingdom, and this only works if the club is successful. Which means that you can take claims of their modest proposals re player signings with a pinch of salt - we are going to go for some seriously world class players next summer. because big signings means success, and success promotes Dubai in a positive way - one hundred times more positive than any other type of PR or marketing you can think of

Agree, except for the standing in the kop bit, new jester hats, Ooters, seriously though they have a building being built at the moment that if all goes well will open when our new stadiums ready, stands at 800mtrs high, I to think there going to use us, to promote themselves aswell.

f*** knows what will happen. After forking out £450m they certainly won't be stringent in the transfer market, the more successful we are the more they can potentially earn. Howver noboby knows to what extent they will be willing to back Rafa. With their money & pedigree literately ANYTHING is possible.

Don't expect a lot to happen. UEFA are bringing in new laws that mean the majority of the team have to be home based or something along those lines. I reckon we'll see Rafa sign more English players than foreign ones.

notwithstanding

otherwise, expect Kaka, Etoo, Alves and Messi in July

this 'home grown player' business will affect everyone - nothing to worry about, but it will mean, for example, that we could risk £5m on the next Walcott, where previously we could not

Won't & can't happen.

This is UEFA we are talking about, anything can happen and usually does.

not when its against EU law & the Major clubs (G14 + others) will dispand & cretae their own federation. Uefa/FA etc have no power anymore, its all with the clubs.

so whats wrong with buying richards and bale? unless of course UEFA determine that scottish or welsh players count as 'none english'. Otherwise richards and baines I would think. we already have carson, carra, crouch, gerrard, warnock, with guthrie, hobbs, anderson coming in and also roque, antwi, insua, paletta etc looking like youth players coming through can't see it causing us a big problem.

I thought the new UEFA rules did not neccessarily mean the players had to be of the home nation i.e. any young player brought into the setup and been with the club for a set amount of years. So probably all the young players that Rafa has brought into the reserves would probably qualify (- if they make it).

to be honest i think it's a lot simpler than that. rather than bringing in half a dozen £6m players during the transfers windows to "create" his team, things will settle down and he rafa will find himself in a position where he needs to invest in two or three to compliment that which already exists. rafa had a five year plan so i'd expect this to start happening within the next 12-18 months.

i also believe that DIC will see this as an investment. they will use existing capital to buy out the require shares, pay off debt and build the new ground. i say this as they have the capital is readily avialable and to get into further debt would not make financial sense - they would be losing money unnecessaily. paying off the existing debts and setting new policies up to govern the transfer budget should enable the club to turn a profit and have sufficient funds to compete with the financial muscle of the other big clubs in europe.

i think it might happend, but only in european competitions.not in the national leagues.

It'll never happen. It's an open and shut case of "restraint of trade", so it's illegal

Is correct - EU employment law forbids it. Only teams employing a shed load of African or South American players wirhout EU passports couyld be effected by such attempts at new legislation.

The EU are talking with UEFA about forcing clubs to me more transparent and to allow rules within UEFA to restrict spending on Chelsea type scales. Spending has to equate to income - and they are citing what Ambramovich is doing as unfair competition and already against EU law. It's more than possible imo the the EU will help UEFA with this type of legislation - they are indication they are willing to go down these lines. Everything else that has come out of the EU with regards to forcing teams to pick local based players etc, they have always steadfastly stuck to the line that this equates to restriction on movement within the EU and they will not tolerate it.

This can only be good for the game. The biggest clubs in Europe will still be the biggest clubs, as most of them generate more revenue through gate receipts, tv revenue and merchandising. The difference is there would have to be a degree of accountability with your transfer spending. Transfer fees would fall back into line, as they were heading pre-Abramovich, and clubs would have to be more thorough in the wages and bonuses they offer to ensure that they could still purchase the better players.

In the long run, it wouldnt be a bad thing for Liverpool, if we are generating more money through sponsorship and gate receipts, and it would certainly mean that Chelsea cannot monopolise the transfer market in the way they have recently.

The EU Sports and Finace commisioners investigated Real Madrid all through the height of their galactico madness with exactly this view in mind - I posted a fair few pieces on it at the time...in short, they got nowhere as apart from the basic rules UEFA can call upon, not to mention the EU, most 'big' football teams now are businesses in the pure form, either as PLC's or their continental equivalents or in private ownership, a few being owned via public/fan subscription. Basically, allthough the general feeling was that Real were as bent as a dogs backleg without major changes in international company law it was difficult to prove exactly how and why, and even more so to do anything about it as the law on company financing and management varies from nation to nation in detail and substance.

In the end there was nothing they could do apart from say 'this is not good for nhe game' and wring their hands a bit. Add to that the fact UEFA would have to sweet talk the G14 into it's point of view - something it is pretty dreadful at doing.

Dubai has been using its oil money to invest in diverging businesses for quite a while now. They know the oil wont last forever and want to create a robust economy, hence the money spent on the airlines, tourism and IT. Liverpool FC falls into that pattern of investments. I don't expect wreckless or extravagant spending on big name players.

They cant do it, EU would not have it. It would be impossible for football to implement such a rule

The G14 clubs would block it as well

Is the right answer - it's in contravention of all the major pretexts of European Employment law and free movement of labour, skills etc.

Anyway - back to Molby's point - don't disagree in principal, but it won't be shiny big players for the sake of it or for more 'mafioso' like reasons ala West Ham - there may well be some big name signings - but only if Rafa wants them. So Alves, Ribery and Simao if not the actual names, are probably the sort of level we're looking at rather than a Shevchenko style signing.
