honourablegeorge Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 ...I though tBellamy worked his a*** off. Looked our most likey outlet to equalise too, before he went off. Beautiful ball for Fowler's goal too - more encouraging signs from the lad. As for Pennant, I've been on his back loads (as have most people), but his burst of pace and cross for the second was lovely. Further evidence that he does have plenty of ability, just his heart that's suspect, really. Hopefully he'll start to show it a bit more regularly.
McBain Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Pennant has set up at least 3 headed goals in europe this season. He must enjoy the extra time and space you get. With the injury problems we have he should be looking to finally cement his place in the team I thought Bellamy looked excellent as well. Was a constant threat and finally looked confident on the ball
matlfc Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 LOVED IT WHEN BELLAMY SKINNED THE 2 PLAYERS ON THE LEFT WING AND ONE HAD TO FOUL HIM JUST TO STOP HIM.
psl Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Thought Pennant had a good game last night, genuinely struggling to understand all the abuse he got in the match thread. He's very much the new scapegoat (must be a relief for Luis). Bellamy had another good game and is showing real signs of playing his way into form. I hope Rafa plays the same team that played at Wigan on Saturday.
johngibo YPC Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 (edited) Pennant put in at least 3 great balls from what i remember. Obviously there was the goal but the chip cross he put through to Fowler after a corner, which Fowler should have done better with was a good ball. However thas pass through to Bellamy which he couldn't control was Alonso esqeOn about 70 minutes Edited December 6, 2006 by johngibo YPC
McBain Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 He still cant take a corner to save his life though
honourablegeorge Posted December 6, 2006 Author Posted December 6, 2006 He still cant take a corner to save his life though Maybe he's a Liverpool player after all.
Kahnee Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 LOVED IT WHEN BELLAMY SKINNED THE 2 PLAYERS ON THE LEFT WING AND ONE HAD TO FOUL HIM JUST TO STOP HIM. No need to shout...
Ronnie Whelan Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Pennant is getting a really raw deal from a section of Liverpool supporters. They need to lay off the lad and support him instead of the usual s**** you hear from certain muppets at games.
honourablegeorge Posted December 6, 2006 Author Posted December 6, 2006 My big problem with Pennant is the "I'm happy with my form, the manager is happy" interview - reminded me alltoghether too much of a certain ex-striker's "Why would I need to score more goals, the manager is happy with me?"
tomasjj Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 He still cant take a corner to save his life though yeah, lets keep focusing on the negative.... Alonso is slow too.Agger gets easily pushed off the ball.Finnan isnt top in the air.Riises defending is weak.

I praised him earlier in the thread did i not If you want to stick your head in the sand about any negatives then go ahead. But one Ostrich Man on the forum is enough

Alonso is slow too.Agger gets easily pushed off the ball.Finnan isnt top in the air.Riises defending is weak. He posted a bunch of positive comments about Pennant and yet you chose to pick on a single (slightly tongue in cheek) negative.

He's very much the new scapegoat (must be a relief for Luis). Bellamy had another good game and is showing real signs of playing his way into form. I hope Rafa plays the same team that played at Wigan on Saturday. Me too. Lets save Pennant for the important games, like last night.

But one Ostrich Man on the forum is enough Spot on. An improved performance from Pennant. That said, the nit picking European Ref allowed him much more time and space. Long term in all honesty, I don't see him in a Liverpool shirt. As for Bellamy, he could be around for a while Edited December 6, 2006 by shanks59
Kahnee Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I personally think Pennant's problem is he's putting himself under too much pressure
Stevie H Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I personally think Pennant's problem is he's putting himself under too much pressurethink so too. he looks scared of failing.
Knox_Harrington Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 The problem is that he isn't good enough. And hasn't the bottle to become good enough.
Cobs Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I still think Pennant will prove a good signing for us. there, i said it.
IgPig Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I still think Pennant will prove a good signing for us. there, i said it. I think so too, Finnan was crap for ages too wasn't he.....
Knox_Harrington Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I think so too, Finnan was crap for ages too wasn't he.....Finnan wasn't that bad - i.e. he looked like he at least understood what was required at right back and had been the best right back in the country the season before.
Kahnee Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 think so too. he looks scared of failing. Exactly. People getting on his back doesn't help
Cobs Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I think so too, Finnan was crap for ages too wasn't he.....not really, (IMO at any rate) there are plenty of players who don't settle immediately at clubs. Pennant has talent, seems to be short on confidence at the moment, i'm sure he'll come good later this season or next.
honourablegeorge Posted December 6, 2006 Author Posted December 6, 2006 The problem is that he isn't good enough. And hasn't the bottle to become good enough. I think he is good enough, in terms of ability. Technically, he's excellent - his touch, his feet, all great. He can cross, he can beat a man, there's pace, it's all there. "Bottle" is exactly the right word, though.
