Pelligrino. (gone)

Morientes. (gone)

Barragan. (gone)

Zenden.

Reina.

Sissoko.

Kromkamp. (gone)

Agger.

His best siging for me is Alonso. The worst one is a toss up between Kromkamp, Nunez and Pelligrino. Although the fact that Calliste and Barragan were sold without kicking a ball puzzles me.

Kromkamp was a great signing, we swapped him for Josemi whom we were going to get very little to no money for. Kromkamp came in, and he was only ever a short term option, so in essence he was there so we could get some money out of Josemi.

I think it's pretty good that the other two were on a free, and didn't do so horribly.

A very simple joint award to Garcia & Alonso.

Most on that list are kids. Calliste was brought in because the team needed a striker. He was never thought of as one for the future - just the right kind of striker to bring the best out of a couple in the team that are in with a chance of making it. And I suspect a few more on the list are of that type.

best - Alonso (although Kuyt may well be given time)

worst - exlcuding the youth players like Calliste I'd have to say Josemi. Scared me s***less everytime i saw him play.

Best- Alonso, no question. He has made alot of productive signings, such as Sissoko and Garcia, but Alonso is pure class.

Worst- In real terms, Josemi, Nunez, Kromkamp and Pellegrino put in the worst performances, but even htose aren't complete write-offs imo. Pellegrino's arrival put pressure on Hyypia towards the back end of 2004-5, and I don't think it's a coincidence that Hyypia's performances showed a marked improvement following his arrival, so in that sence, Pellegrino was actually a good signing (great guy too). Nunez was free, and whilst he wasn't great, we didn't lose out financially, and I think we even profited in the end following his departure, so again, nothing was really lost there. Josemi was bad, but again didn't cost a great deal, and although he didn't work out, it was worth taking a chance, and we got Kromkamp in return, and whilst he wasn't up to much either, between the two transfers, we again profited from his departure.

Pound for pound, I'd say Morientes is Rafa's worst signing. Nobody would guess that at the time with a player of his calibre, but for whatever reason/s, it didn't work out, unfortunately.

Carson. - FAILURE

Very harsh. He's a 20-year old whose been outstanding on loan at Charlton by all accounts. Surely the jury is still out on him, and I'd say he's a very promising prospect, and represents excellent value if he fulfils his promise.

Morientes is his worst signing, he was signed to be our leading forward and by the time he left he was 4th choice. I still to this day don't understand why people call Nunez a bad signing, he was a free transfer and did alright while he was here. We missed him last season.

^ a shame Nunez isn't still here - would've been a good back-up to Pennant for the right mid spot. Not a worldbeater but gave the side width, had a decent cross, worked hard up and down the flank and was good in the air.

Garcia. - unpredictable but has scored some of the most important goals in the last few years. Overall a +

Alonso. quality. Nuff said.

Pelligrino. (gone) 6 months, never adjusted to the pace, too old maybe to do so...

Morientes. (gone) I was so hopefule when he joined, given his performances now he's back at Valencia perhaps its a case of 'couldnt adjust'

Carson. good, reckon he'll come back and be no. 2 next season. Defo a good backup and will push Reina hard imo

Reina. good but having a tough 2nd season. Perhaps needs a Didi type player to make him look better. Maybe strange to say but he (and the back 4) have looked uneasy since Didi left.

Sissoko. good. Maybe needs to be repositioned into the Didi role more.

Crouch. good. Coming up with the goods more than any other up front this season. Promise is one thing, end product is another. And he's got it.

Gonzalez. too early to tell

Kromkamp. (gone) good(er) going forward but never going displace Finnan at RB. Good Sale imo

Agger. Good and going to get better, reckon he could be the equivalent of an Alonso signing in defence

Bellamy. too early to tell (maybe) needs more time, hmmm mind not made up at all.

Paletta. too few games, a Carra understudy I think. more time required before any judgement can be made

Aurelio. good going forward, poor going the other way, stop gap ala Josemi me thinks

Pennant. ?. neither convinced good or otherwise about him, Probably more under threat of being replaced than any other in this list.

Kuyt. good, going to only get better. sums up what LFC is about for me frankly. His commitment is good he plays like a fan who's been given a ten minute run out - all heart and will to win. Been here 3 months(ish) and has settled in well, lots more to come from him. With the end product this will be a Grade A star. Best signing since Alonso imo

Overall, more good (way more) than bad. Thumbs up to Rafa in the transfer market I reckon!

I thought Barragan did play at least once for the first team, remember him coming in a european game

Totally agree with everything in this post.

Morientes looks a different player now at Valencia. I'd say a toss up between him and Josemi as Rafa's worst signings.

Diao one of the worst in recent times?

Posted

I think if you were asking the most influential

I would say Garcia, granted the quality Alonso posses is much more then Garcia but Garcia has contributed to some of our greatest victories over the past few seasons...

Posted

Alonso, Reina, Garcia and Sissoko have been very good signings. Agger should prove to be a steal.

Nunez was a stop gap and with little time and money in the transfer market was what we needed.

Pellegrino's signing may well have given Sami a kick up the backside but he was thrown in at the deep end and given too many starts.

Fowler cost nothing, is a back-up player and is probably good to have in the squad so how he can be considered one of the worst signings is odd.

There are no Dioufs or Diaos in Rafa's closet yet.

fully agree with that. Letting Nunez go without singing a replacement was a mistake on rafa's part. He was no world beater but his departure left a gap in the squad.

Worst: Fowler

curious. I thought the same at the time he signed but his performances last year sort of justified the six-month contract for me. Not too sure about the extention. We'd probably have been better off keeping pongolle as an impact player.

Totally agree with that. Rafa obviously thought he's not ready, but loaning him to Charlton was clearly part of a plan to get him up to scratch and pushing Reina for a first-team spot. I have high hopes for this kid, a lot more than I ever had for Kirkland.

My best and worst are:

Best: Alonso. No explanation necessary.

Worst: Morientes. I can see some rationale behind Rafa's other flops, but nothing positive in Morientes' time with us.

This is my first post, by the way - looks like a great site.

In my eyes Garcia is as poor a Liverpool FC player as I have ever seen !?! No heart, no bottle and cant pass a ball 5 yards.Yes he scores the odd spectaclular goal but overall he is week in week out very poor.
