Has anybody thought about that if we loose (I really think we won´t win) against Chelsea on Sunday that we will have 4 points after 4 games... If United win against Arsenal at Old Trafford then they will have 15 points after 5 games and if Chelsea beat us they will have 12 after 5 games.

4 points after 4 games is really bad considering that we are supposed to be challenging for the title.

Really getting nervous about this match on Sunday. The next two homegames against Tottenham and Newcastle will be very very important !

The pressure is on this year after the good season we had. Therefore in order for us to contend we will have to take points off the likes of Chelski and Utd. Last year despite the amount of games we won we only took 1 point out of 12 against Utd and Chelski.

With so many new players coming in the title was always going to be a long shot. We should really be aiming to cement ourselves in the top 3, and then anything else is a bonus.

Nah

Been saying we would be happy with the top three for 10 years

Title challenge this season is expected by the fans and justifiably so

I don't think it is. We've finished in the top 3 twice in the past 16 years, so it's hardly a regular occurence.

When fans start making these rash predictions about winning the title on the back of two long, hard seasons, with 7 new players coming in, there's going to be a lot of disapointed people.

Fair enough, but WHEN are we going to win the league?? We have been waiting for a long, long time and money has been spent.

It's not exactly too demanding to be expecting a title challenge looking at the squad Rafa has been able to assemble.

We lose on Sunday, there could be serious questions about our title aspirations.

Agreed. And if we're to have any chance, I reckon we'll need at least 18 points from our first 8 games. To achieve that, we have to get something out of the Chelsea game.

It's impossible to say when, there's no magic formula or wand, we just have to trust in the manager. He's brought us a lot of success in a short space of time and deserves that at least.

He'll get it right, I just don't think it will be this season due to the amount of new players and new methods being implemented.

A win in Athens would be nice though...

I dont think the team's ready, I think the international breaks and the world cup have spoilt rafa's pre season -

I think we'll see the real Liverpool after Christmas - when the team have had time to play together for a while

Also we have the midfield dilema - play 4 or play 5

Reina is having a tricky second season ala WesterVeld , Dudek etc

Next year for us (unless the Mancs or chelsea don't produce the 90 odd point form all season)

3rd this year, 8/9 points off the winners.

too many new first team players these year.

Next it will be just a couple of 'major' signings into a balanced team / squad IMO.

The season isn't over yet and we could still win it, but I tink we may have followed the hope and hype a little too much.

however, if we beat Chelsea...

3 pts from Chelsea away & 0 from Everton away is (probably) a lot better than 3 pts from Everton away & 0 from Chelsea away.

We'll beat Chelsea at their place again one day, this weekend is as good a time to start as any

I know people want to beat chelsea in the league, but I'm happy doing that in cup semi's/finals taking something almost tangiable away from them gives me more pleasure than a mere 3 points

of course beating chelsea everytime we meet them would be the best

There will be serious questions about finishing top THREE if we lose on Sunday ! OK..it's very early days but it's dropping points in these early games that gives us so much pressure trying to make up ground later on. We look a long long way off the finished article this time around. After a very poor pre-season,it just has'nt happened for us yet except in the CS when we looked decent.

The thing that will really pee me off if we lose on Sunday is that weve been rotating the squad for no reason. 1 point from 3 is not any good, I would prefer we have tired players and play our best team every game than have fresh players losing games.

Also it seems our best run last season came when we rotated 1 or 2 players tops per game but the difference was that we were winning.

I think we should start winning first with our best team THEN start rotating sensibly while winning games

I know squads were smaller 20-25 years ago but playing your best team every week and asking the rest to prove they warranted a place in the team is still the pole which I lean against.

We played a fair few games in the 83 - 84 and 84-84 seasons, be interested to hear how many players we used and their appearances over that season.

We know (and have read right here on YNWA) that Reina needs a settled 4 in front of him for him to have confidence in that defence, that applies throughout the team surely.

Chopping the midfield/strikers must have the same effect on those playing behind them as chopping the defence would have on Reina?

Sorry if I come across as old school but playing your best 11 every game is the way I'd like to see this heart-string tugger of a team to go whether its league, league cup, FA cup or euros....

AR, I notice you describe yaself as a superfan.

PJ hasn?t missed a home game in decades, he makes most away matches and can usually be seen in an iconic crumpled blue cap for the ressie home games too.

You are a superfan, PJ a super supporter. His opinions are well worth listening to.

Does not mean AR can not disagree though does it, they both make valid points

Everyones opinions, apart from mine, are worth listening to

F**** ridiculous post an totally out of context. I used to be a 'super fan' but am now an OOTer, so f***** what?

I was about to type the same as AR but he got in first. So if we lose on Sunday we can no longer challenge, what garbage. If we lose on Sunday and then go on an unbeaten 27 game run, we will ahve lost 2 out of 29....I think will be challenging if that scenario comes up. Too may idiots these days only worry about the next game, Rafa is palnning for a whole seaosn.

its not the end of the world if we lose. I would like to see a clean sheet, but it means nothing ifwe cannot continue.

Do you really think that Arsenal are out of it? and they are in a worse position than us!

fair play to PJ, but i'd have thought that after all that time watching football he'd know that nothing is decided after three or four league games.
