Guest Kev Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Only scored 4 goals at Anfield. Kaunus, Blackburn Rovers, Anderlecht and Portsmouth, and never found the net at home in 2006
Maldini Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Agreed, 14 goals away from home is an amazing record, fools to sell him we were
Guest mitya Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Playing as a right midfielder, coming as a sub after 70 minutes or being replaced at the half in most of his games. Mostly, not because of his lack of effort and commitment, but because of the things didn't work out between him and Rafa. I'd prefer him to Morientes and Crouch. Felt real sorry for his injury before the World Cup.
Leo No.8 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Says a lot about Cisse that record. Totally inept against teams defending deeper at Anfield which would negate his pace. Away from home against teams trying to beat us and playing with higher lines he could be very dangerous...

jimmylibel Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Who did he score against with a cross again? Pompey?
sutty Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Who did he score against with a cross again? Pompey? 4 goals at home, one of which was a fluke
Guest Kev Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 This wasn't a thread to slag him off, I was just surprised at the stat that's all.

If there was one thing that cost him his place here it was his lack of effort and commitment on the pitch.

I said mostly. Besides, it is hardly a motivation for a striker, to start on the bench or as a right midfielder every single game.
sutty Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I said mostly. Besides, it is hardly a motivation for a striker, to start on the bench or as a right midfielder every single game. He did play as a striker in games such as Man City away, where he started and ambled around the field like Stan Collymore used to on a bad night.

I'd say 'ambled' is being generous. Ambling would have been a monumental, Momo Sissoko-esque effort in comparison to Cisse at City...
Guest mitya Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 (edited) Ok, I am in a minority on this one, obviously. But did we have a better striker in our team last year, honestly? Do we have one this season? I am all for Bellamy scoring 20 and Fowler getting 70% of his goal-scoring ability from 10 years ago, but that is yet to happen. Kuyt is not on his way, as of now. Crouch? Yeah, he can score some goals. But, imho, he hasn't got a lot of room for improvement. Edited August 11, 2006 by mitya

Leo No.8 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Bellamy could be very similar Think he's better on the ball myself, more skilful and harder working. Bellamy will score goals home and away...
monkey puzzle Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 You're in a minority I feel. He talked the talk but certainly never walked the walked, perhaps it was down to those broken legs but by god he was one infuriating get. Other than the derby I never saw him place another shot in his entire LFC career. He'd just leg it and t*** it, a bit like the annoying kid who shows up to 5 a side in his jeans and a cap.
Barnesy_10 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 that chance at Old Trafford set him on a downward spiral for me. Frustrated the hell out of me that did. Just have to wish him luck though, shame he never lived up to the videos we saw of him at Auxerre.
CHRed Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 What sealed it for me was his substitute performance against Chelsea. Unbelievable. We were holding on with 10 men! Shocking performance
Guest Scot James Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Good goalscorer, great pace, but lacks basic football intelligence, which didn't fit well with the systematic Benitez. He'll do well in a more direct team that play to his strengths. Bellamy is a more complete player in my view. He's more aware, uses his pace more intelligently, and is better in posession.
jimmylibel Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 What sealed it for me was his substitute performance against Chelsea. Unbelievable. We were holding on with 10 men! Shocking performance Aye that really was the final straw. Thought he'd be busting a gut last season having recovered from what could easily have been a career ending injury. But he wasn't. Didn't have a big problem with his finishing, with his supposed moaning on the pitch or with his touch per se. What really got to me though was his refusal to run and his lack of commitment on the pitch. I think he could have been a real fan favourite if he had applied himself better. But I don't think he knows how do to that.
crisps Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 On his day he had some good games and scored some important goals but I think Cisse's main problem was that he was the main man at Auxerre and the top scorer in the French league so in himself he thought he was the finished article and wasn't really willing to change his ways or learn...
