granted but judging by the few appearances he's made for us i can see he's very much in the same mold of hyypia i.e. the way he likes to go forwards.

I would suggest Crouch ahead of Fowler, based on last season, and the future as well. But cannot disagree with the rest - there is enough experience to be able to put Gonzalez straight in.

Paletta is a top quality player I think we signed him as Rafa might not rate Agger since he has joined us.

jury is out on agger, as we have hardly seen him play since arriving at anfield, and by the sounds of it...hes struggling in training and has been consistently picking up knocks..

knockers, dont you just love them

You 2 make a fine pair.

Agger wasnt bought to walk straight into the team to displace either Carra or Sami.

Think you've misunderstood. I'm disagreeing with the person I've quoted.

our strongest Xi depends on who we are playing

is correct...

tactics, formations, & player selections will vary from opponent to opponent... that's the Rafa way

even once we've made all our signings

even once we've seen them all play

even when we have a game coming up, and we know which players would be most tactically suited to it

even then, threads like this are t***tish

I have doubts as to whether we can start both bellamy and fowler together in a game. It gives no aerial prescence, and we wont be able to hold the ball up either. This was exactly the reason we bought crouch, and a big part of why we succeeded last year.

Reina

Carra Hyypia Agger

Alves Gerrard Sissoko Alonso Gonzales

Kuyt Bellamy

Just to throw in a different option. A 3-5-2. Keeps the midfield trio and adds South American pacy wide men either side. Midfield offers everything - pace, width, crossing, strength, stamina, tackling, shooting. And Kuyt to sign and form a great partnership with Bellamy.

This team would only need to revert to a 4-4-2 against Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd and possibly Spurs. The rest of the teams in the league would be blown away. It could also easily be tweaked into 4-2-3-1.

Definitely depends on who the opposition is, but I think Reina in goal certainly, and the back four of Finnan, Carra, Hyypia and Riise definitely, with Aurelio and Agger, possibly Paletta too all pushing for places, although I expect the latter is far too young and inexperienced. In midfield, I think our best option is having Sissoko as the holding player, alongside Alonso, with Gerrard playing more advanced, which leaves the front three. Some sort of combination between Garcia, Kewell or Gonzalez, and the striker/s, depending on what formation we play, and who we are playing against. In most regular matches, I'd go for this:

Reina

Finnan-Carra-Hyypia-Riise

Garcia-Gerrard-Alonso-Gonzalez

Bellamy-Fowler

I can still see Rafa using Crouch to hold the ball up effectively in the bigger games as a lone striker, as he did in the games against Chelski and the Mancs in the cup's, which would leave us with this formation:

Reina

Finnan-Carra-Hyypia-Riise

Garcia-Sissoko-Alonso-Gonzalez

Gerrard

Crouch

We have good options still, but we still need to bring in one or too more in certain positions, as everybody knows of course, a right winger definitely, and probably a striker too.

Agree with you mate, haven't seen Gonzalez play yet, so I'll still pick Kewell before him. I'm really excited with Speedy today tho..

It will also be exciting to see how good Aurelio is. I think he'll play at the start of the season, but Riise is a player who fight back and I think he'll win his place back actually.

As mentioned before, the team depends on when and where we play, plus there are so many matches during a season it's hard to pick one XI.

Why would you add "our summer signings included"?

We agreed to sign him in very early February not long at all after Agger signed.

Rafa's that ruthless!!
