Ray Kennedy should be above Lawro (there is a tainted legend ) Many of my early memories of watching football feature Bruce, so he will always be a hero to me. On your scale it would have to be a 5 I think.
DaveLFC Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Ray Kennedy should be above Lawro (there is a tainted legend ) Many of my early memories of watching football feature Bruce, so he will always be a hero to me. On your scale it would have to be a 5 I think. lawro should not even be on there, he should be stripped of any ledge status, I think Hansen would be upset to be seen on the same level as him as well. Bruce, well if he let on goals then he can rot in hell. I often remember the 3-3 against the mancs at Anfield which I believe was one of the games he allowed the ball to get past him. If its true then he can never be forgiven for that alone.
Gomez Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Brucie is a legend. Don't believe the s*n's allegations against him, they are not a trustworthy source, and even then it was somewhat scant. I think the only time he was ever tried by a jury he was found not guilty, which was overturned by some dubious shady panel. I said at the time, if you want to influence a match score, bribe the ref on £50 expenses not an invidual player on £40k a week. It's more effective and cheaper.

Phil236849 Posted July 20, 2006 Author Posted July 20, 2006 was hoping someone would come to my aid and sor' i' aaaaht. used to be able to do them. my view is brucie got involved in things he should have kept well out of but did not change his level of performance so it's just about ok, and so he remains a ledge as for lawro, well if we're talking punditry, he and jockey have gone in opposite directions, and i think lawro's not bad now, not got the knives-out-making-a-name-for-myself approach any more
Cobs Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Also he could well have let some in but we had a striker called Rush up front (as well as others) who certainly knew where the goal was, so how could he account for their performances?he didnt have to the 'alleged' deal was for the 3rd party to be betting on LFC to concede goals not lose matches
Alonso Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 he didnt have to the 'alleged' deal was for the 3rd party to be betting on LFC to concede goals not lose matchesAh ok my mistake, thanks.
dodgy1 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 He's a f***ing cheat and was caught on TV for being so. He saved Ryan Giggs' shot in the 3-3 earlier mentioned and lost a lot of money for doing so. He was gutted saying something on the lines of "the ball just hit me, i couldn't believe it". No time for him, he's corrupt as f***. I think it was World In Action or something on them lines he was caught on.

floyd the barber Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 ex players that liverpool fans now love to hate... lawrohansenphil nealgrobbelaarsouness and im sure this list will grow with more and more players becoming pundits.... As far im concerned all were legends when they were with liverpool......couldnt care what has happened since (souness the exception of course)..... so yeah maybe we all dont agree with their coments on tv or of course bung scandels......but for what they done for our club during their time as players....for me that makes them legends.
Gomez Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 he wasn't earning £40k a week or anything like thatPoint is still valid. A referee, not professional at the time would have been on average wage. £20k - £80k depending on what their day job was. Brucie would have been earning a hell of a lot more than that, specially when you include sponsorship deals etc. Even if he was on a 'meagre' £10k a week, which I don't think would have been that unlikely, he'll be looking at high hundred thousands all in all. A ref is much much more bribable with a £10k or so, it's just common sense.
Cobs Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 common sense is irrelevant where human greed is concerned. he did it.

He's become a crap pundit these days, but he was one of our greatest ever players and a sound lad too.The man's a legend.
Fagan Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 he is guilty, and the reason he got off was on a point of law. pure technicality, as was mentioned by the judge in his judgement. he threw games for liverpool. so unfortunately that wipes him off all legendary lists.
bazz Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 If he is guilty, then how come the other former legends still play with him on the legends circuit. Sure if it was true, wouldn't they hold it against him?
Will Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Anyone who puts Sammy Lee at just 6 out of 10 deserves to be ignored (yes, I have spotted the irony....)
smithdown Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I'd love to believe he didn't do it, but I remember well my uncle stood on The Kop giving Bruce all sorts of stick one Saturday, a few days after a poor performance had put us out of Europe, 82 or 83 season. Not one to take sides against our players in all the years I've known him, our kid had had a good few before the game and spent a long while right behind Bruce shouting "how much did you get for that, c*nt? you are on the take you are lad, how much did they give you?". He got a good few dirty looks and gestures off Grobbelaar that day but our kid wouldn't have it. Me being a kid wouldn't believe such a player could do such things and always told our Robbie he was well out of order, but he maintained for years that Bruce was a wrong 'un. When all the stories came out and you look back at the goals he was accused of letting in it knocked me sick. That Newcastle away and manc game at home looks bad, very feckin bad. Even the one he saved from McClair at the end seems lucky as he dived the other way, but McClair mis-hit his shot. Spurs v Southampton where Rosenthal came on and scored a hat-trick is another that makes you wince. Hate to say it, but he was on the take after all I think.
Gary Wolf Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 My first memory of Bruce was in 1992. That was a Cup Winners Cup match agaist Spartak in Moscow. The score was level 2-2, when Bruce got himself sent off, and Burrows had to step in, as there were no more subs left. The result was a 4-2 defeat, after which I started supporting Liverpool like madman.Later, when I managed to get some DVD's of the 1980's, I got a better view of Grobbelaar. IMO he was a decent keeper, but his legendary status is more because he played in a great time and won trophies than because he was outstanding in goal.
