Haven't heard anything about it, but they really should. They bang on about getting games for young English players, but the only time managers can take a risk and name them on the bench is in Europe because of the 7 subs.

I've heard Rafa, Mourinho and Wenger come out in favour of it in recent times. Scotland have 7 subs too.

I've thought for a while now that they should allow you to sub a player and then at a later point in the game put him back on. In other words if a player gets a knock to the head, a cut etc then a manager can sub him in order for him ot be checked over and get treatment. He can then be put back on if found to be ok.

Of course this would count as two substitutions but sometimes a key player has to be withdrawn from a game or encouraged to play on while using this system that might not happen.

Personally, I think the 3 subs is perfect and maybe open up a fourth if the game goes to extra time.

Also, I think something needs to be done for subs happening in the last 2 minutes of a game. Its always the player furthest away from the bench, and he walks off taking out 2 minutes from the game.

The problem with that is the ref, not the clubs. All he has to do is stop his watch.

I personally believe 3 subs is enough, with a 4th in extra time. I also support 7 players on the bench.

I'd like to see the 4th official manage all subs, so the ref can just ref.

I'd like to see players allowed on the pitch whilst another is receiving treatment (blood subs as in Rugby) I hate it when your own player is fouled, hurt, then has to leave the pitch while you take your free kick without him. Where's the advantage in that??

Is there are reason why you can't name a squad of 23 (as in international games) and pick from the 12 that are left on the bench? Even name a 22 and have your "second 11" on the bench. I know it makes it easier for managers then to make the right sub but it'd keep the squad players happier.

Main Stand would lose half its seats just to accomodate the players!! :)

My idea:

7 subs of which 2 are under 19's. 3 substitutions like usual except you are allowed to switch keeper once during the game without it counting as a substitution.

That would unfairly favour the clubs with larger squads. Clubs at the top end of the league could name 11 subs who have all been in and around the first team. In games against those at the bottom of the league (especially some newly promoted teams), that 11 would more likely be a handful of first teamers and a bunch of untried kids.

No problem with it being 7 to bring it in line with European competitions and a lot of the other leading leagues. But anything more than that would be excessie, as would te use of more than 3 subs - in 90 minute games at least.

Definitely bring Baros back on.

I love it when an outfield player goes in goal.

As do I and that is why I wouldn't want to do what Kev suggested.

I think any 3 from 7 would be good, without any age restrictions. And as Rafa once said- four subs allowed for cup games that go into extra-time, I think would be a good/sensible idea.
