The English FA isn't so great that they pick up all the wages, I think it's usually half, and it has quite a low ceiling, not up to modern top wages.

It's Newcastle's insurance which will top up the percentage that the FA will pay towards Owen's wages and presumably, medical costs.

I can assure you they have, my brother does the clubs insurance

they also got paid #3m when cisse got injured at blackburn
