I've had a glance, and it would indeed merit more regular and detailed attention if we can win here.

It would at least explain how he gets in the team ahead of a few others more deserving. Still, can't please everybody all of the time, and maybe he'll have one of his 1 in 10 good games.

Rafa Benitez - Napoli Manager
Davvo replied to Rory Fitzgerald 's topic in General Football Discussion
It's this kind of s***, added to the Terry factor, that makes it impossible for me to wish Rafa well there. They don't deserve him, and I hope they go into some kind of meltdown. They're really not out of our reach in the league either. Leave City to stop the Mancs winning the league for this year, and drag Chelsea into a battle for the top 4, which hopefully they lose. Perhaps an initial ridiculous meltdown, ruining the reputations of Terry, Cole and Lampard in the process, and then a remarkable recovery that falls short of getting back in the top 4. -
Aye, it's Skrtel's man in Hendo's zone. If Skrtel's going to help Carra covering the other guy, or just his zone in the centre, rather than track the man, then he needs to be checking for Henderson's position surely. Both at fault.

That was obvious at the time aswell really. Sterling had been warming up at 1-1, but to go ahead with that sub after taking the lead was naive to my mind. With both Shelvey and Gerrard too eager to get forward, Sahin was left badly exposed while YB were pushing forward for that equaliser. The sub should have been Allen for Cole, with Shelvey or Gerrard pushed up to the front 3, and the other playing infront of Allen-Sahin. I can't remember if we appeared to be playing the 2-1 or 1-2 in CM at that point either to be honest. If it was supposed to be 2-1, infact regardless, once Gerrard joined the attack, Shelvey should have been dropping. Shelvey's response to us losing the ball on the edge of their box, was very Adamesque to my mind, and goes to show that having both he and SG in centre mid is very much a gung-ho attacking option.

BR has no choice but to send a full strength side for this I'd have thought. Udinese should in theory play a weakened side as they have nothing to play for. Not ideal, but it's a much better scenario than if Udinese were still in with a chance of qualifying.
-
Doesn't work like that. It becomes a 3 team mini group. 7 points YB, Udinese 6pts, LFC 4pts = YB qualify
-
That scenario would leave 3 teams on 7 points, with YB going through with Anji.
-
We match YB in a two way tie we are through, as we beat them head to head. If there's a 3 way tie excluding Anji, YB go through as they will have the best record in games between the 3 clubs (ie 7 points to Udinese's 6 and our 4). 3 way tie excluding Udinese, ie us and YB both win, then YB go out as they would only have 4 points from games between those 3 clubs (they beat Udinese twice, which would count against them) So.... we win : we are through regardless we draw : we go through if YB lose/draw we lose: we go out. I can see YB winning given Anji being through regardless, so we need to win. Thankfully, Udinese being out already makes that a little easier.
-
YB qualify if it's a 3 way tie on 7 points, as all their points would be from games in the 3 team mini-group, us and Udinese have points from games vs Anji, which wouldn't be included.

He was at least trying to get back and challenge for their 2nd goal (although you could argue he was out of position), Shelvey gave up badly I thought. The main problem with that goal though was all 3 centre mid's pushing too far forward, madness at 2-1 with time running out. I think that kind of mindset was put in play by the Sterling sub though, I couldn't believe we didn't put Allen on at that point, moving SG or Shelvey higher up. Either way, blaming Pepe for it is madness, a ball at that speed getting a deflection like it did, needs a great deal of luck to keep out.

It might miake sense to us, but I doubt it makes any sense at all to him or any other football club, and there lies the problem. We still owe him in the region of £9million between now and Summer 14, and I'd be amazed if anyone would be prepared to take on even half of that.

Stevie's not finished yet so it's hardly a comparison you can make, plus he's been disadvantaged having to carry the team his entire career almost. In those circumstances it may never be possible to compare their contribution's. I've seen plenty of both, but you'd need some fancy algorithym to come close to getting an accurate comparison really. In short it's still Kenny , we won stuff, loads of stuff, and he was on a different planet to everyone else he played with or against. Stevie's incredible, a one-off in many ways, and definitely in our top 6 from my lifetime, with Barnes, Rush,Hansen and Souness. If I was forced to pick a spot for SG now, it'd be 2 or 3, depends how much weight you give to length of service etc. Hate doing this though, there's plenty of players that deserve mentions and are equally deserving of being in a top whatever you want to call it. Would love to have seen Gerrard play with the great teams of the past.

We've looked good at times, we've looked bad at times, which is about what most people expected we'd be like after the fiasco of a transfer window. There's been some positives from the failure to bring in 2 or 3 quality forward players, in that Sterling, Suso and Assaidi have had plenty of chances and shown plenty of promise to varying degrees. This was always going to be a tough 4 month's, and judging us after each game is pretty much a waste of time to be honest. For me, we've shown progress in the 2 months since the window shut, but I'd like to see quicker, more incisive passing, and I imagine so would Rodgers.

Aye, but that's a point of view from the ref's inner circle isn't it mate ? They'll be circling the wagons, so there wont be the faintest sniff of guilt being spoken about, thick as thieves. Right now it's shaping up as being the words of Chelsea vs the word of the ref and his assistants. Think we need to wait to hear the basis of Chelsea's complaint at least, before there can be any attempt at predicting the outcome.

Can't see Henderson or Robinson ever being part of a back 3. Or did you mean Cole

f*** me. Almost escape from a yard dog battle with 3 points, and an incompetent f***ing official does us again. The games too big and too fast for f***wits like that lad, he needs to stick to his day job and Sunday League stuff. How can one little g******* like that be entrusted with making such big decisions ? Never in a million miles is that going to look like offside to him, the Manc c*** in the studio is right, he's s*** himself there.
