I think he would be a good signing on a free particularly if Konate resigns. Van Dijk, Konate, Leoni, Jacquet and Senesi makes a lot sense (he's also left footed!) and the money can be spent elsewhere.
In an ideal world, both Alisson and Van Dijk would leave this summer, but given the work needed elsewhere, their experience is vital. Plus, I don’t think Mamardashvili is remotely good enough to replace Ali, his distribution and ability to play out from the back are miles behind. I’d rather keep the current core and focus on a new starting LB and RB, plus a left-sided CB. That allows Virgil to move right and rotate with Jacquet and Leoni. We also need two midfielders (think Wharton and prime Fabinho profiles) and two pacy wingers.
We can't afford another 'punt' on the next boss; we need a sure thing. But the squad still needs a massive clear out and rebuild. For me, that's a whole new backline, two in the middle, and two out wide. If we can keep Virgil and Alisson for one more year and see some improvement from the new signings, we'll be in much better shape.
Liverpool won't see the best of Wirtz until they build the team around him. We need a system, ideally a 4-2-3-1, that lets him stay central with zero defensive baggage and speed on the wings. Our current options don't fit; Gravenberch and Szoboszlai want to go forward too much, while Jones and Mac Allister are struggling. This team needs major surgery to actually function.
Genuinely wouldn't disappointed if any of these players left. Allison, Mamardashvilli, Konate, Robertson, Kerkez, Frimpong, Bradley, Gomez, Jones, Mac Allister, Endo, Gakpo, Chiesa.
