Welkom Arne Slot/new manager discussion
Martinus replied to Stanley Leisure 's topic in Liverpool FC
Ironically I think Kayode would be a great signing for RB. Long throws aside, as he is good at them. -
I really like Wharton but think Anderson is what we need.

I just hope this all leads to much clearer transparency around the roles and responsibilities of the head coach and the sporting director, when Slot departs, because whatever the current model actually is, it raises far too many questions and makes it impossible to assign clear accountability. -

But regardless, those changes need to happen no matter who the manager is next season if we genuinely want to compete for the title again. I’m not absolving Slot of responsibility for how this season has gone, but there are definitely factors outside his control. He wanted Guehi, and he wanted to keep Díaz, and just those two decisions going our way could easily have us sitting third right now. -

I actually think the squad, as a group of individuals, is excellent, it’s just imbalanced. That’s why, for me, it’s more than just a winger and a centre-back. If we’re aiming to compete for the title in a 4‑3‑3, we need a right‑back, a proper defensive midfielder in the Fabinho mould to free Wirtz up as a ten, and two fast, explosive wingers on top of that. Wharton’s brilliant, but he’s more of a Mac Allister alternative than a true holding midfielder. Fix those structural gaps and the whole picture changes. -

I’ve said a few times now that he hasn’t had the tools to do his job properly. Objectively, we know he’s a good coach, we saw that last season. He’ll end up paying the price for this season; it’s just a matter of when. But I’m still not convinced this campaign is down to him. If you look at the gaps in the squad, which most of us agree on, and imagine we fill those positions with the right signings next season, I think we’d be competitive again regardless of who the manager is. -

Guardiola lost 5 at home last season as well. -

One small mercy is Xhaka is missing for them. -

It's a shame Szobo is suspended as I think we finally need to accept Slot made the right call in benching Salah. -
Yep Kelleher looks to be better than Mamardashvilli.

I just don’t think he has the tools. He’ll end up taking the blame, as managers always do, but this team isn’t going to improve with Salah and Gakpo stuck out wide, and without a proper defensive midfielder or at least one defender who can progress the ball from deep. We’ve got to hope we can hold on to players this summer, address the obvious gaps in the squad, and fully back whoever is in charge next season. -

Actually, no. History shows that no one has managed to build a team for sustained success using that system. In addition I think only Tuchel has won the European Cup with Chelsea, playing a back 3 and even then, he took over mid-season. I don't mind it as a tactical option for specific matches, but I definitely don’t want a new manager who intends to make it our primary identity. So personally for me, Alonso's answer to that question would determine if he gets the job or not. -

Rumour is he's just bought a place in Madrid...that would be a madder job for him to take imo. -

Yep I just don't want us to even contemplate the possibility of a team playing with a back 3. Sorry. -

Klopp first please. I want him to turn us down before we move on to the next target. -

No absolutely we shouldn't but we are short, way short despite the money spent and nothing significant is going to change until we rectify it with new signings. -

It's not. Both Salah and Gakpo need replacing. We are far too open in midfield without a proper DM, and we don't have a reliable RB. -

They are both better balanced teams. We are a team of individuals with obvious gaping holes. Need a ball playing CB, RB, DM and two fast wingers all first team ready. -

We aren't getting it with anyone in charge. Don't have the players.
