Barnes' left foot

That's the thing I didn't understand about Barca last night. Having watched a fair bit of them this season, when they get a lead they usually are relentless in trying to get more goals, especially in the 2nd half. Last night they seemed content to just sit on a 1-0 lead in the 2nd half, which is very unlike them. But like Swipe says, I still think they'll go through.

That was the problem yesterday, when you looked at our bench for someone to change the game (once they'd equalised) or just to put some more pressure on their defence, we had no one (Ngog didn't really do much of anything when he came on). Their winger, Victor Moses, caused a lot of problems for our defence. Now I'm not saying 'sign him' but if we had someone like that, yesterday would have been a comfortable win. It's scary when you think that the only players we've had in the last 25 years who could play on the wing with pace and be a consistent threat have been John Barnes and Steve McManaman (and McManaman wasn't really a winger). 2 players in 25 years is very poor and a sad indictment of our scouting.

The greatest club sides I've seen are AC Milan (Rijkaard, Gullit, Van Basten), 87-88 Liverpool (Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge), Ajax (Kluivert, Litmanen, Davids, Seedorf) and now this Barcelona team. All four gave me the feeling that when they stepped on the pitch, they weren't going to lose. And if they did, it was a massive shock.

If I was a Chelsea fan (thank f*** I'm not) I'd be a little worried about today's result, as we've just provided the rest of the league with a blueprint of how to beat Chelsea if Ancelotti plays that system again (and I'm sure that he will play it again). Poor old Chelsea, you've just spent £50m on a striker and we've shown everyone how to make him a non-factor in a game.

One thing that system allows is for one of the central defenders to get forward. There were a few times that Skrtel was in their 6 yard box and not just for corners.

How is Skrtel getting that far up the pitch?

You see, this is the thing about 'Arry's claims - The Guardian link posted earlier in this thread says that we offered £8.5m and then £10m for Adam and both were rejected. So how is it that 'Arry managed to agree a deal with Blackpool for Adam for only £7m??? '...Couldn't get shareholders signatures'. How convenient. The thing is people keep saying that we should wait till the summer to get Adam & Young, but by then more clubs will become involved in trying to buy those players. Whose to say Arsenal, Man City or Chelsea won't be interested in Young in the summer. Can we compete financially with them if we wait till then to put in a bid? What if the Mancs become interested in Adam? This is why Chelsea are trying to get Torres now - they don't want to get in a bidding war with Man City because they'll lose.

Can always rely on you to have a pop at Torres during and after a game.
