  1. Apparently we are the only english side to ever beat Barca at Nou Camp
  2. Apparently we have 29% of possession so far.....things can only get better
  3. Can someone collect thethreads from chelsea and everton forums and put them all together in a sticky somewhere. cheers
  4. Looks like the emails are working to a certain extent. The article is now on the front page of yahoo minus the hillsborough reference .....but still has the heysel reference.
  5. I don't want to divert attention from the message of the thread. But I posted a link to this article and got abused for it. I even avoided pasting the text. Now you're insinuating that I was abused because anny rd was defending the memories of those who died at hillsborough? the insinuation that somehow I abused that memory and anny rd had to defend against it is insulting. Especially since you hase pasted the exact same article I was just a little kid when hillsborough happened. I wasn't even in the UK but the horror of those pictures and that event is seared in my memory as well. I even stopped watching football for a while. We're all passionate about the same thing. Its ridiculous to abuse each other over it.
  6. brace yourself for abuse from anny rd...... Everyone should email them. I'd like to assume that this is an ignorant US journalist and we can educate them.......
  7. Yes I will obviously be emailing them. My initial post was brief because I was at work. However, I have made it a habit of posting articles with the link. In this case I avoided posting the article because of the content. Your assumption about my motivation when you know nothing about me makes you self righteous.
  8. My point in posting it is because we should email and try to educate the clods who did it. I will delete the link if it bothers you so much but not the post because I think we need to respond Edit: can't modify post anymore
  9. I didn't post the article itself but this is on front page of CNN not the S## and I think some responses are in order. Get over your self righteousness. Perhaps you would like to pretend that one of the biggest news portals in the world hasn't posted an incredibly stupid article about our club but I don't.
  10. Brilliant. Now we've made front page on CNN http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/socc...ex.html?cnn=yes
  11. The news of the ruckus was in portuguese papers long before the norwegian reports. As someone else said on here, reporters follow players around because they know these kind of things happen especially on trips abroad. And finally while what Risse did was wrong in informing all and sundry........if you really think that the whole thing could have been hushed up and no one would know....you're delusional
  12. fine....but i still want a smiley with a golf club
  13. can we get a smiley with a golf club?
  14. yes because it was all a big secret till Risse called his mommy right? Maybe the rest of the players should have been more like Risse and thought about the game in a few days time instead of going out and getting drunk
  15. I don't understand how risse is the problem here. did you really believe that an incident like this wouldn;t make the papers? regardless of whether risse called his mommy or not, the fact is that a few days before our biggest game, Bellamy gets drunk and then proceeds to the bedroom of one of the players with a golf club.....what happened after that is irrelavant. What Bellamy did was unbelievably stupid and totally out of line with what is expected of someone who plays for Liverpool FC. Stop defending his stupid behaviour and trying to shift the blame to Risse. "oh he just got drunk and playful" is NOT an excuse for an athlete in a team sport to even threaten someone with a golf club.
  16. Are you serious?
  17. Earlier we could argue that the youth teams didn't have much promise....thats not so true anymore. I really think that youth players at Liverpool get so few chances and signing players like Voronin just makes it that much harder. I'd rather we signed a youth player on the verge of the first team than Voronin. I don't know much about him but we have enough low scoring forwards at this club.......an out and out striker would be better if we were going to buy someone older
  18. I would prefer that slightly above average squad players be picked from our reserves or youth squads........there's enough of them there that we don't need to be signing them from the Ukraine.....
  19. Looks like its confirmed. From soccernet. Not exactly earth shattering news. Liverpool clinch summer Voronin signing Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin is set to join Liverpool in the summer. The 27-year-old played for Bayer Leverkusen as they lost to Hannover 1-0 in Germany's Bundesliga today. And after the match it was announced Voronin would be moving to Anfield at the end of the season, with a four-year deal having reportedly been agreed. Voronin, who has scored six goals in 20 league appearances for Leverkusen so far this season, featured in the Ukraine team that reached the quarter-finals of last year's World Cup. His transfer looks set to be the first agreed at Anfield since the club agreed a £470million takeover with American tycoons George Gillett and Tom Hicks earlier this month. Voronin's arrival at Anfield would give Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez five options up front unless he opts to offload any of his current quartet of strikers. Peter Crouch, Craig Bellamy, Dirk Kuyt and Robbie Fowler have battled for the forward slots this season. Meanwhile, John Arne Riise's agent Jan Kvalheim has spoken to the player about Sunday newspaper allegations of a bust-up between the Norway defender and Liverpool team-mate Craig Bellamy during a club break in Portugal. The News of the World report allegations that Wales striker Bellamy clashed with Riise following a dispute during a night out in the Algarve resort of Vale do Lobo. Kvalheim told Norwegian newspapers VG and Aften Posten that he has spoken to Riise and Liverpool but will be leaving any comment on the allegations to Liverpool.
  20. Anyone who complains about our poor finishing should watch arsenal today. Talk about gilt edged chances
  21. If there is little chance he will be fit, is there a point to continue keeping him at 50,000 a week? We have persevered far longer with him than most clubs would have and I think he could not complain if the club decided to part company with him. I mean seriously, how many of you are currently in jobs that would keep you while out sick for such a long period.

    Kuyt

This argument has been done to death. Its not our strikers that are the problem. It is impossible for a club as big as ours to go through so many strikers without finding even one prolific one. The problem is the lack of support from midfield for the strikers. And thats something only Rafa can fix. There is no point getting the ball to Kuyts feet 40 yeards from goal when there is no one for him to pass to. Our midfield has the mobility of an 80 year old elephant and the addition of Pennant has not made a difference. As frsutrating as Garcia is, he provides a major outlet for our attack and the rest of our midfield can learn a lot from him Oh yeah and playing momo and alonso together does not solve the problem. Carra is more likely to score than momo

    Barcelona next

We'll beat Barca the same way we beat all those teams on the way to winning the CL the season we finished 5th. Simple as that.
  24. Rafa's not helping from soccernet Updated: Feb. 9, 2007 Benitez planning 'world class' signings Rafael Benitez accepts that life will be easier for him in the transfer market under Liverpool's new American owners. But although he claims the club will never be the same again, he insists he does not feel any extra pressure working for owners who do not know his qualities and track record intimately. And the Anfield chief believes the club is in for a major transformation following the midweek takeover by new co-chairmen George Gillett and Tom Hicks. However, at the moment very little has changed. The American circus has returned across the pond and former chairman David Moores, still a director, will be in his usual seat in the directors' box when Liverpool face Newcastle on Tyneside in a crucial Premier League match. Benitez sees only good in the future and, even if he has not been told how much money he will have to spend, he does reveal that he 'will only now be looking to signing top class players'. Benitez, who will be missing the suspended Xabi Alonso at St James Park but expects to have Mohamed Sissoko finally back from injury, said: 'It has been a very important week and something that will change everything. 'We talked about the future of the club, not money or this player or that player. We talked about who we had in the squad and ideas for the future. 'They were nice people and good businessmen. That is a good mix, they can then do the right things for the club in terms of money and how we grow. 'They will try to do the things they are doing in the States with regard to marketing. That is what they are really good at. We can grow and improve.' He added: 'It could be a problem of inflated fees now, but I am happy with my scouting department and we are doing a good job now without any big money. 'We have enough money to do business now and if we have more in the future it could be easier. If we have two players we like and one is more expensive, maybe now we can consider signing him. 'We are doing the right things now and maybe we will not need to spend big money in the summer.' Benitez, who takes his squad to Portugal on Monday for a five-day warm-weather training camp, dismisses talk of extra pressures on him, saying: 'I do not feel under any more pressure. When you sign for a new club they may know something about you but they do not really know you. 'So this situation is no different. They know enough about us, they are clever, certainly not stupid. 'They know how important it is to keep the same things, the players, the manager. They will be calm and give us support. 'Everything is positive, the future of the club is brilliant and I had a very good meeting with the new investors. 'They will do their best for club. Not just with money for signing players, they will try to improve everything. 'They know they do not have experience in football, but they are people who know about sport. That is important. 'We talked a lot about the ideas for the club, they will do the right things. They understand the passion of this club and our supporters. 'We have not talked about budgets, more ideas and how to keep the team at the top of the table to remain contenders.' He added: 'But I will have more money, normally that will make things easier. But I have said to them that it is not a problem of money, more to do the right things at the right moment. 'I have no figures in mind. But we have always been watching top class players, who we believe can improve the squad. We have a really good squad now, but to make the next step higher we can only sign top class players. 'More money will make it better for us. Manchester United have spent big money on key players, and now we have the spine of a team maybe we can approach the market like they have done. But it is not going to be a Chelsea-situation here.' Benitez said: 'We have plans to improve everything. The stadium, the squad, young players, everything that can be really good for the club. 'If we get a bigger stadium we will have more fans supporting us in every game and that will help. It will also bring in more money, and that is very positive. 'What we must do is to take the atmosphere from Anfield to the new stadium. 'We will continue doing the same things. I am talking to (chief executive) Rick Parry every day, we cannot stop doing what we have always done. 'First it is Newcastle, then the rest of the season and then what we will do in the summer. 'I read that I will have £100million in the summer, I know nothing of that. At the moment we do not have any money. We are just preparing for the future.'
  25. We don't know the ins and outs of the Iraq war either. Lots of secrets being kept there and given the paucity of experts in terrorrism, international politics, warfare and governance on this board, I'm quite shocked that all of you express strong opinions on these matters........
