If you had stopped to think about it you would have realized that my point was that we ignored the negatives of the DIC bid when it suited us and now we dig up the negatives of the DIC bid and ignore the negatives of the Gillett bid because that suits us. There's never going to be a perfect bid......I get that. I just think its funny how we are constantly manipulating facts to suit our current mode of thinking
-
poor sap I really feel sorry for him. Wonder if the whole fiasco will affect his position.
-
Thats funny. When I first mentioned the treatment of guest workers when the DIC bid first came in, I was shouted down by the very same people on here who are now championing the Gillett bid.........we've come full circle now. What next? We all love George Bush? Whats that? Never really hated him?
-
While the sheikh also inherite his money, he generally leaves management of it in the hands of trusted professionals. DIC is not some upstart corporation either. And of course this deal looked more convincing to Moores.........not only does he get more money but both him and Parry keep the job. Of course they were thinking about the club....
-
Perhaps they didn't submit a bid because Moores didnt endorse it.......in which case submitting a bid would have been pointless.
-
Couldnt have put it better myself. The problem is though that we have become so used to this kind of soap opera drama surrounding any of our transactions that we don't see it objectively. However go around to any other club forums and they are laughing themselves silly. Not that I care what they think, but we are so busy analysing the scraps of data that we fail to sit back and look at the whole situation and think what the **** are they doing? If it were Everton or any other club we would be pointing fingers and laughing about what a shambles they are. As for blaming it on the advisors, leaders make the decisions. I guess Bush and Blair should not be blamed for anythign either.......it was all the advisers.

agree with most of that

Given the incompetence that Parry and Moores have shown over the years in any kind of negotiations I tend to believe they screwed up. You say that we have no evidence that they did........well where is the evidence that DIC is at fault? Given that Parry and Moores themselves spent months telling us how wonderful they were. And then as soon as more money shows up suddnly DIC aren't so wonderful anymore? I think the burden rests on people to prove that Parry and Moores did not in fact screw up I mean this could be the deal that makes or breaks our beloved club! Don't people get that? One thing we had with Moores was relative stability, profits ploughed back into the club etc. But we were stagnant and being overtaken by the likes of ManU, Chelsea and even Arsenal. Moores obviously does not want to be the one to take the risk of moving the club forward and thats fine. But with DIC we had some assurance that if nothing else, in the event of failure on the pitch, they would invest as necessary because liverpool would be linked to their image abroad and they have the resources to invest. With these new investors we are now in uncharted territory and our future now depends on the financial solvency of two individuals.......one with a history of bankruptcy and another with shady dealings (that I know nothing about). DIC being a corporation backed by the vast assets of Dubai promised some modicum of stability. The arabs are a proud people and I firmly believe that even if it meant making a loss on Liverpool, they would put as much money as necessary in to make the club succeed. I know this because I lived in the Mideast for 18 years and people there are MAD about footie!!!! All said and done, I would prefer Moores stays rather than go with these new guys.......... One thing to be said though....I said in one of my posts initially that the problem with having an Arab owner, particularly a sheikh is that they are a proud and impatient people. They throw money at a problem and expect it to be solved no questions asked by their underlings. I have no doubt that Parry and Moores blundered about like buffoons and the Sheikh was having none of it and pulled the plug. Whether this is a good thing we will never know. Whether I want my club hocked up to its years in high interest debt by Gillett and his buddy ........NO.
-
More straw clutching. DIC as well as other government investment vehicles of the Mideast states have a mandate to invest long term. Of course they are in it for the money, but they are not in it to make a quick buck.

so you've gone from "Moores will accept the DIC bid even if its lower as its the best for the club" to "I've always been suspicious of DIC"........is there no end to your "Moores knows best" bit So Gillett is frustrated with not being able to influence results on the field? Great I'll bet Rafa will love Gillett meddling with transfer policy and tactics.......I've voiced my concerns about DIC long before you became "suspicious" fyds but this Gillett bid is second only to Morgan as the worst possible thing that could happen to LFC. I'd rather we stayed at Anfield with moores ......and thats saying a lot
-
Given how Gillett has a history of taking out huge loans, bankruptcy and has hocked the Canadians into debt to give himself a 75 million dollar payoff, I find it incredible that anyone can support this takeover........

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...101&cc=5739 Updated: Feb. 1, 2007 DIC tried to bully Liverpool board, says Parry LIVERPOOL, England, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Dubai International Capital group tried to 'bully' Liverpool's board into accepting a takeover offer, the English Premier League club's chief executive Rick Parry was quoted as saying on Thursday. The DIC withdrew their bid on Wednesday when Liverpool asked for more time to consider a rival offer from American sports tycoon George Gillett. 'We have a duty as directors to consider a very interesting bid from George Gillett,' Parry told the Liverpool Echo. 'The DIC response to this was to give the club 12 hours to make a decision but the chairman was not prepared to have Liverpool Football Club bullied like that'. Liverpool are now concentrating on the offer from Gillett, the owner of NHL side Montreal Canadiens, and Parry insists the change of heart was not down to money. 'The price is not a factor in (chairman) David Moores' mind. He is not after cash for himself, absolutely not, but he felt compelled to consider the rival bid,' Parry added. 'We would also stress this is not a question of going for the second choice. David has always given George Gillett serious consideration while at the same time we didn't want to rush into any decision, and we were aware DIC might walk away. There were initial fears Gillett was keen on forcing Liverpool to share a new stadium with city rivals Everton. But whilst Liverpool did announce an exclusivity agreement in November, Gillett impressed the board with his proposal and the way he completed due-diligence in three days. 'George Gillett has made it absolutely clear to us he will not be in favour of a ground share,' Parry added. 'There will be funding for the new stadium and a proper commitment to investment in the team. 'Be assured the only thing David Moores is concerned about is the club being in the right hands for the future. 'You can be certain he has done his homework carefully and will make a decision in the best interests of the club.' Liverpool are believed to have had second thoughts about the DIC after they took several weeks to complete due-diligence. Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez told a news conference on Thursday he was happy with the board's actions. 'When the club was talking to the DIC the conversations were good, but if the board decided to change, maybe they think the new people are better. I trust the board,' Benitez said.

Now you're just clutching at straws
-
Fairplay to you then mooks but that doesnt change the fact that Gillet is significantly less desirable than DIC. This coming from someone who had serious reservations about DIC themselves (as my past posts will show) but it was a case of the "devil you know" Gillett sounds like a lot of americans around me......living beyond their means on money they don't have.
-
Sorry mooks but gillet is a business man like any other who knows how to run a franchise and make money out of it as seen above......
-
I love how DIC have gone from our saviours to two face opportunists while Gillet has done the opposite. Brilliant. The irony of this all as Scot said is that Bose and Gravy were right! Will those who mocked the wisdom of Bose and Gravy (sounds like a dish) now recant?
-
The majority of reaction is that Moores and Parry are to blame and that to me is the most obvious explanation given the facts available thus far. As for the winning the league that wasn't going to happen anyway this season but you can see how this is going to unsettle players. And finally Rafa was promised money from this deal and made public comments about how happy he was with it......I seriously doubt he'll leave but he must be atleast a little irritated.
-
What knee jerk reactions? Isn't Dave Usher a credible source? I don't think any of the reactions can be classified as knee jerk anymore Regardless of what Usher said. The fact that we have spent months on this deal saying it wasn't about money and how wonderful DIC are.....The moment someone comes along with more money..... How stupid is that? How is it that after all this time suddenly the board found problems with the DIC deal? The only funny thing is imagining Gravy laughing his head off at RP
-
A big fat no because Gillet has barely a tenth of the money that DIC has and we will now in all probability be saddled with debt from this takeover. While the board walks off into the sunset with their pockets lined. The very fact the Gillet considered a groundshare initially tells me he knows nothing about what this club is about. And whatever else can be said about Moores and Parry, not even their best supporters can deny that they are NOT decisive in any sense.

Actually Dubai is running out of oil, they do have some nice shiny towers though and lots of cheap labour. and it should be Dubye
-
Not confused or panicking....just impatient and irritated that everything we do seems to take forever and quite often never even happens.
-
So after months of harping on and on about how wonderful DIC are and how perfectly suited they are for LFC, we ditch them as soon as someone offers more money???
-
Because I said so You clearly disagree and as we all well know, people on forums dont change their opinions but argue back and forth for hours regardless. Ergo its pointless for me to argue or explain why. so there...... Bingo
-
SACK PARRY. Seriously though this is nothing short of pathetic.
