  1. Well said. He can be a bit of a lazy c*nt but can just as easily win you a match.

  6. I agree. The level of bitterness shown by some is no better than that of vintage Mancs or Evertonians.
  7. It does stop at the top but there's no way that Moores could have forced any manager to keep a player that wasn't performing. Those decisions are rthe manager's alone. As for the management, he did keep Evans and Houllier a year or so too long which wasn't the best but I'm not absolutely convinced that more frequent managerial changes would have made us any more successful. Don't get me wrong, I'm not his biggest fan and whilst I think he's more naive and stupid than malicious, I don't think that as a chairman he could really have done much more than he did. Had he decided to bring in a manager merry go round culture, he would be getting a lot more abuse than he is now, especially if we hadn't won the trophies we did in his time.
  8. That's a bit unfair. It's not as if he never backed his managers financially, we always had plenty of cash (relatively speaking). Perhaps if they'd bought better players at key moments, he wouldn't have had to dither about getting rid of them. He wasn't perfect but our decline is far, far more answerable to the playing staff and management.

  10. Of course they care about winning the league, what I meant was that they take that as a given. As for Sky and talksport as examples, what's the difference between them and those that post on here - they're still fans who have an opinion like anybody else. For the record, one of the dissenters was a mate from Scotland who's a proper footy man through and through and he said that whilst he'll get a good reception, he's not convinced that he can improve them any further or, crucially, be able to attract the sort of players needed to help them improve. If I was on the Celtic board, I'd have been setting my sights higher than that. As an example, Martin O'Neill had a much, much higher profile than Mowbray when he went up there. Why not target another bright, young manager who's overachieved with his current team - not something that Mowbray has done.
  11. Made up for the pair of them, I think they'll do very well there.
  12. In theory, yes but the early reaction from some fans seemed to be less than positive. I know he's an ex player, likes to play good football and all that s**** but can he do any better in Europe than Strachan? They're not interested in the league, they take winning that as a given. Whichever way you look at it, the appointment of a man who's spent over half the season bottom of the table (admittedly in a much tougher league) isn't one that inspires huge confidence.
  13. I'd be gutted if I was a Celtic fan. Hardly a progressive appointment although I appreciate that it's difficult for them to attract the cream.

  16. Oh, I wasn't quite so idealistic, I sung it as loudly as the next man. It'll never be eradicated after recent events but at least we're not selling f*cking tshirts to glory and profit in it.
  17. That's the one I was thinking of. It was my first United game in the Kop, never forget it. They were all getting sung that day.
  18. Not sure it stopped just like that, I can remember it being sung at Anfield post Heysel for definite. Post Hillsborough was the real death knell for it.
  19. I didn't start going to the match with my mates until the beginning of the 86/87 season but I remember those first few games so well. It wasn't like going to the match with your old man in the Main or Kemlyn, it was big leagues time in the Kop, the thing you'd looked at how many times and now you were in there. Looking back, it was an overwhelming thing with the crowds and atmosphere but all you wanted was to be part of it and as you say, the only way to do that was to shut up, look, listen and learn. I often compare it to an apprenticeship.
  20. Great post, mate.
  21. I didn't say we lost the league purely down to Arbeloa. If you want to split hairs then his poor decision making and anticipation on the right may have prevented the creation of clear goalscoring chances. As for Gerrard and Torres, even if they had been on the pitch, we might still not have won. However Arbeloa was on the pitch most of the time and as such, his contribution is the one under scrutiny.
  22. Well done to you then. You know exactly what I meant; we need better quality than Arbeloa if we're going to win the league.
  23. Johnson is far better than Arbeloa going forward and whilst he isn't as tight defensively as you'd ideally like, working with a coach like Benitez will shave off thos rough edges. Arbeloa, like Riera, is an ideal squad player but not of the quality needed for a sustained assault. Agreed about the improvement of Arbeloa too, I don't think he'll get much better.
