I think I agree with Taggart and Rafa - they were bloody lucky. Overall this season they've managed to complete most of the season with a settled side with no injuries and nobody to 'bed in' after the summer. Add to this the fact that some of their most influential players had the summer off [Giggs / Scholes] or were invigorated by the whole World Cup experience [Ronaldo]. They've also got rid of Van Horseface - which has helped changed the way they play back to the pacy counter attacking stuff which made them so good in the 90's. We've had to bed in loads of new players [again] and they've only been a qualified success - Kuyt has been good but his touch and finishing have been poor sometimes / Pennant is only now showing ANY kind of form [or bottle] / Speedy has been very poor for most of the season / Bellamy has been excellent but patchy. I agree with Leo - Alves and Villa would be great. I don't want us to make too many other changes cos it fecks up the start of the season too much

Christine, I agree that the start to every season is a massive disappointment for the last few years. Every summer we feel like the signings we've made are going to be the last part of the infernal jigsaw! But this is just our untamed optimism [and the summer sun] getting to us - after all Rafa has almost completely changed the squad over the last 3 years, and due to the constraints of the transfer window this means that we start every season at a disadvantage cos we've got 3/4/5 new players to bed in. Once they learn the Rafa way these players eventually become part of a formidable team unit that usually finishes the season very strongly. I fear next season this may happen again cos Rafa is [hopefully] going to have a wad to spend, and we all know he needs 2 or 3 top players to come in. Again this will happen in the summer - so the circle begins again. Whilst all this is frustrating I agree, one thing is for sure - I'm enjoying going to the game far more now than I did when Sami spent the game booting it up for Emile to nod on to nobody in particular.

thought he started off a little off the pace - the game seemed to be passing him by in the first half hour. After that he got better and better. Love the way he was always pointing for the ball to be played to him on the ground in front of him, and his tracking back was top notch. All round a very pleasing debut. Well done son.

It's a sad indictment on today's society. The community spirit has, it seems, disappeared even in Liverpool. I always felt like we were bigger than all this, but not so sure after yesterday. I saw one single Evertonian in the Oakie after the game [and that itslef is a sad thing] but he won't be back in there after some of the sh*te he was getting from some in there. Very Sad
