deffo go with the foreign teams every time. Rafa knows how to beat them every time and these battles always turn into tactical ones. The English teams could turn it into an English style game - then it's often down to tiny differences as to who wins -way too risky!

reckon a ticket in block 203 will cost about £50 next season! Seriously though George would be making a big mistake if he thinks that we're gonna stand by and watch him fleece us [and if he's basing his pricing policy on the Emirates then fleecing us he certainly will be]. I'm all for the new broom - I've said a million times that Rita Sullivan could do a better job running the pathetic underworld emporium that is LiverWorld, but raising money by charging extortionate ticket prices to those who are the lifeblood of this club is going the wrong way. We already struggle to make any kind of atmosphere apart from those big European games, and making it more difficult for the average joe to go to every game [and so let the tickets go to once-a-year-wonders [who'll spend a packet in the shop too - a happy coincidence?] is going to make it difficult to create. How can you market something that you're trying to kill off? Don't get me wrong - I think G&T are good news, but as of yet it's all talk [about which I'm genuinely excited - they certainly talk the talk] - the proof of the pudding will be in the action.

hope this isn't as bad as it sounds. What do you mean by 'letting the club down and causing trouble'? What kind of trouble? It doesn't bode well if Kev is really despondent after a performance like that............but on the other hand he is a pessimist at the best of times

Amongst all this talk of needing a World-class striker...
reddragon replied to Lee W 's topic in Liverpool FC
this still getting everyone going innit?!?! I think Owen is a class act - can't think of any squad he wouldn't improve if fit [a big if - but not as big an if as some make out]. However, the way he left and the way he didn't come back makes me think it aint never going to happen. Rafa won't want him [having given him 2 chances he won't give him a third] and neither do a lot of Kopites. Let's face it, although stranger things have happened in football it isn't very likely. -
the whole England situation in the last year has been FArcical: 1. Getting rid of Sven. I couldn't believe some of the criticism Sven came in for [remember this was before the World Cup] - does nobody remember how s**** we were previously?! Keegan was a disaster, Hoddle was only there 2 minutes and lost the dressing room, Venables did OK but we'll never know how if he'd have been able to mould a team whilst also having to go through a qualifying group, and before that we struggled even to qualify for the big tournaments [and sometimes didn't]. I suspect a serious bout of Xenophobia in the press [along with BIG wages] helped Sven out the door. A big gamble. 2. The gamble on getting a replacement could have worked if the FA hadn't decided to name the replacement before the World Cup, thus ruling out almost all major candidates for the role in one fell swoop. Scolari et al were never going to commit until the tournament was over, and there was no advantage in the FA doing this at all. 3. So that [and Curbs obvious lack of ability in the media spotlight] left us with O'Neill v McLaren. No contest, we thought. And we were right. Wild card big mouth with no desire to coach the U19's etc and not even English v Media savvy respected coach of the Uefa Cup finalists? Of course, when the blokes making the decision have no idea about what makes a top international coach then the decision is easy. To those of us with a bit of knowledge of the game the opposite decision is easy too - but we're not making the decision - doh! 4. McLaren comes in and his first decisions are monumental errors. First, he sidelines Beckham and decides to play Stevie on the wing. Now I'm all for Stevie playing on the right for Liverpool - but thats cos we've got Xabi and Momo in the middle and nobody decent to play on the right - whereas England have Beckham on the right and Hargreaves / Lampard in the middle!! McLaren should have based the team around Stevie playing in the middle with Hargreaves [red tinted? Maybe, but an Ipswich fan from Felixstowe told me the same thing today, and I'm sure there's many people around the country who think the same], and he should have kept Beckham in the fold on the right. I could go on - tactics / captaincy / Rooney, etc. I'll be surprised if they win by more than 3 on Wednesday night. They need Owen back more than anyone in the press will admit to - remember how they've written him off so many times - they certainly don't want him to be the saviour of this sad situation but thats the only hope for McLaren now.

like he said btw - ring of fire sung by anyone else only shows the truth of the old adage 'you got yer education from the Kop'

all good debating stuff on this thread - i'm totally unconvinced by all this high handed stuff and nonsense though. TBH i am fairly sure a Crewe fan would rather see a Crewe team winning their league with 9 loan players rather than be forced to go and watch Liverpool or United [or watch Crewe play in a league 3 or 4 rungs lower than currently], and I reckon a Plymouth fan would rather go away to Doncaster than watch Portsouth reserves [they'd get the piss taken out of them win or lose - you're only playing our reserves etc!]. If we don't watch ourselves we'll end up ruining the game for the glory of greed. We watch young players get plenty of games at the moment - if you go and watch Arsenal. It's a simple deflection of coaching / talent spotting ability to suggest that this is a good idea - if the players are good enough give them a chance in the first team - if they're not ship em on or loan em out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LDK93d2GbY...ted&search= class Bitterness (to the tune of Ken Dodds - Happiness) (chorus) Oh bitterness, bitterness The only thing the blues possess, I thank the lord that I've been blessed, With none of the blues**** bitterness.... To me this world is a wonderful place, A red and white glow all over my face, I feel so good to be alive, European cups, oh we've got five.... (chorus) The bitters were living in a land of dreams, "you'll lose if you ever face a decent team" But Juventus, Chelsea and Milan tried, They all got beat so the blues**** cried.... (chorus) At half time AC thought they had us beat, The blues**** were dancing in the North Wales streets, But Stevie G played like a man possessed, So all they've got now is their bitterness.... (chorus) They said Milan Baros was offside, They say Steven Gerrard took a dive, They say Jerzy Dudek shouldn't have no pride, But they've got none and we've got FIVE...

sorry Rafa mate but i think this is a crap idea. As Fatty Robbo said it's a case of the rich getting richer and the poor being shafted. Liverpool FC is not about being high-handed and looking down on the small clubs. We are rightly proud of showing our appreciation to the fans of lower league clubs who come to Anfield in the Cups. Whilst we are fed on decades of success these poor souls starve whilst waiting to come to Anfield and get thrashed 4-0 once a blue moon [if ever]. Why should we think we have the right to relegate some teams out of the league in order to give our reserves a run out?

err.....like when mate? soz if i trod on your toes mate!!

not sure i agree with the principal that big = best [i.e. we have to have 90k plus to be the best stadium in Britain]. Remember Wembley before - 80k but an absolute s***hole. However, the thought of our new stadium holding 61k has never filled me with much pride at the time when the scum are only expanding further away. 70k would seem a bare minimum to me. As for never filling it, apart from a very few Carling/Worthy/Coke Cup matches i think we'll always fill it. It may take some clever ticketing policies, but i reckon there is EASILY another 25 thousand people in Liverpool itself who would go the odd match if they could, let alone the OOT fans. Lets face it , now we're playing good football instead of hoofball under GH, and we're attracting fans quickly and easily after Istanbul.

sven is better than almost every england manager we've had [excepting bobby robson maybe]. At least with him in charge we qualified easily every time - not like before him...........or after him it seems

From a manc on soccer24-7 forum: "Have it on good Authority that the plans for your new Stadium has been canned. The design was not what the new owners wanted.... so they've gone right back to the drawing board... literally. The design that was originally agreed, was for a 60,000 capacity stadia, but Yanks being Yanks... wanted it bigger!.. they want 70K... and have asked an Architects firm from Texas who specialize in Stadium design to start all over again.... and they've bought an Architect practice in London to oversee the build. So it will delay the start of it! Not been announced yet.... but it will be." Verified by rushscored4 [a man in the know apparently] on est1892: "...about the new stadium I heard yesterday. Apparently Statler and Waldorf (Hicks and Gillett) have sacked the Manchester-based architects Atherden Fuller Leng (AFL) and appointed another firm from London. And just to please all those of you out there that don't think 60,000 is enough, the new architects have been given a specific brief - increase the capacity to 70,000. I've no idea how they will do that as I've always said the planning permission granted was based on 60,000 (or 61,000 to be more precise) being the maximum limit set after considering the infrastructure and the effect on the roads, etc, of an extra 16,000 fans at each game. Anyway, I thought I'd pass on the news... "
