By recycling I meant winning it back and starting things off. I wouldn't argue that Alonso doesn't have the better range of passing! Ultimately Alonso is dispensible (prioviding the equation = Barry plus spare change) and Mascharano isn't (my opinion, naturally).

"It's players like Alonso that make us tick." - I'm not sure he's done enough of that in the last season and I think Mascherano is far more valuable in recycling the ball. I suspect the wheeler-dealing aspect of this is partly correct -if the sale of Alonso and the purchase of Barry yields a net profit then the profit is used to buy elsewhere - that's business (especially in our corner of the market)... I'm not as enamoured of Alonso as I was a season or so ago... if he goes, he goes.. best wishes etc

That's my assessment too. In many respects Alonso leaving is a pretty good measure of how much the team has improved, in terms of talent and strength in depth. If Alonso's moving had been mooted a year or so ago I'd have been far more concerned/disappointed.
