The disappointed fans might not even get their money back, says lawyer May 11 2006 Daily Post LITIGATION lawyer Paul Lunt last night warned fans they could even lose out on a refund on their tickets. The commercial law expert from Liverpool firm Brabners said the tickets only specified money would be paid out if a match was cancelled or postponed. He has been inundated with calls from irate fans desperate to find a way to get their tickets reissued for Saturday's crucial match. Fans who are not admitted will be able to try and sue the FA under consumer law on grounds of loss of enjoyment, although any payout would be unlikely to top £100. In the meantime, fans should contact the ticket suppliers over a refund. Only an extremely costly court injunction to stop the match being played would help the fans whose tickets are missing. Mr Lunt said: "The realistic position is that whatever the legal rights are the wheels turn so slowly that it would not be resolved by Saturday. "If Richard Branson came to me and said 'money is no object, sort this out' we could possibly try to get an injunction but that is about it. "It is difficult because the fans have a contract with the FA but the FA has a contract with the Millennium Stadium. "At the moment the fans are just focusing on trying to get new tickets but next week we will look at legal action on the basis of loss of enjoyment, which is usually used for people whose holidays or weddings have been ruined. "The tickets state: 'No money will be refunded unless an event is cancelled, postponed, abandoned or ordered to be behind closed doors'. But, now they've said that they will be watching the stolen ticket seats and will throw anybody in them out of the stadium, anyone with a touted ticket is not going to go anywhere near their seat. They'll be trying to squash in anywhere they can, probably causing just as much of a safety issue.

Daniel Agger played his first game since returning from injury but finished on the losing side as Liverpool Reserves lost 2-0 at Manchester City in their final game of the season. The Danish international played the first 45 minutes of the game for the Reds in Paco Herrera's final game in charge of the reserves before he returns home to Spain in the summer. Conditions at the Regional Athletics Stadium in Sportcity were far from ideal and City took advantage of kicking with the swirling wind facing them in the first half. The home side scored both goals in the first half and although Liverpool were much improved in the second period they just couldn't find a way back into the match. Last season Liverpool were thrashed 5-0 by City having been on the end of a 6-0 defeat the previous campaign. Herrera made four changes to the team that beat Manchester United on Sunday with Agger, Danny O'Donnell, Adam Hammill and Ramon Calliste all given starting roles. City made the more lively start to the game and were deservedly into the lead after 22 minutes when O'Donnell held back Ishmael Miller. A penalty was awarded and Miller stepped up to slot past Martin for the opening goal. Liverpool were finding it hard to get going and create any decent openings and City made it 2-0 after 37 minutes when Sun Jihai ran onto a through ball, rounded Martin and slotted home. Agger went close for the Reds after 43 minutes when his blistering 25-yard drive from a free-kick was palmed away by Nicky Weaver. That was to be the Dane's last involvement as he was replaced at half-time by Danny Guthrie. The Reds made a further change on the hour mark when Paul Anderson replaced the disappointing Calliste in attack. Guthrie went close for Liverpool after 64 minutes with a superb curled effort from 25-yards out that landed just wide. Adam Hammill then suffered similar misfortune with a tremendous effort that went just wide. Robbie Foy also went close with a long range drive that just cleared the bar. Besian Idrizaj went close for the Reds in the closing stages of the game with a fine effort that hit the bar. Looking back it has been a good season for the reserves and Paco Herrera and Hughie McAuley will have seen much to be pleased about. The young guns in the team, 17-year-olds Jack Hobbs, Godwin Antwi, Miki Roque and Paul Anderson have all had excellent campaigns and the foreign players adapted really well to new surroundings. The emergence of the talented winger Adam Hammill has also been a big boost while the consistent displays of Lee Peltier, James Smith and Danny Guthrie have also earned them a lot of plus points. Reds goalkeeper David Martin can be pleased with his contribution too and since his arrival from MK Dons he ended the season with a good record of 10 clean sheets in 13 reserve team starts. Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez enjoyed yet another fine weekend for Real Sociedad as he scored again in their crucial 2-0 win at Villarreal. The Chilean was farmed out to the Spanish outfit by The Reds after being denied a work permit to play in England. However, he has done a lot to push his claims for the opportunity to play in England next term with a series of superb displays for Sociedad. Having scored a late winner for the Basques on his debut against Mallorca back in February, he has now managed four in his last five games to help Real pull clear of the relegation zone. The 21-year-old admits he did not expect to find his form so quickly in Spain, especially having returned to action following a serious knee injury that kept him out for nine months. "You never expect to have a moment like the one I'm going through so soon, it's happened quite quickly really," he stated. "I have quite a few problems with the knee, but fortunately that is now history. "At the moment I am giving my best, enjoying the warmth of the fans and my team-mates and trying to achieve a common goal which is to stay up.
