Yes. you don’t buy a Ferrari to leave it in the garage or drive off road. you bought a world class 10. Play him there and coach to what it should be. same with kerkez/gakpo - how is that not better yet? That’s just coaching.

So if it’s not the players (clearly we have a talented squad) and it’s not the manager (based on various briefings) that leaves the new coaches and changes in slot’s team. Doesn’t look like they’ve ’slotted’ in as well as the staff did last season. hopefully slot can be ruthless with them and turf them out. Heitinga available again for example.

I’d like slot to be as ruthless with his coaches. clearly something has gone wrong with his staff there.

The formation, the movement and passive play with reduced movement and pressing. The changes from last season are apparent. Big changes in coaching has to be a contributor.

Don’t blame Wirtz here. It’s the coaching. he came because he liked how he was going to be used. then the coaching changes happen and suddenly he’s passing it back, playing on the left or not at all.

This is it. the manager didn’t change. The coaches did. Heitinga more influential than thought. Should bring him back. if slot did make changes in the back room or coaching I’d give him another chance. i don’t understand this need to stick with something that isn’t working.

No doubt he’s speaking for himself. and no doubt he should’ve kept it in house. But at Liverpool is based on an unspoken agreement that everyone is treated with respect. If slot and his coaches are shutting him out like he said, I’m with Salah. coaches need to man up and have a chat. Tell him, we believe the way out is to build around Wirtz and so until you get back from afcon you are on the bench and you have fight your way back in. someone mentioned it elsewhere, slot’s new coaches may have screwed him over. Last season balance in coaching staff maybe was better.

It seems like Salah is right. Not getting on, even when 2-0 up? Bizarre. the new coaches clearly have not helped at all.

We should sign the leverkusen full back who played with Wirtz - apparently big Liverpool fan too. brimpong or something? And who was that left back who made the PL team of the season? The one who ran up and down the line and stayed wide, put a great ball in. He would be great too.

Kerkez, energy and the pressing are the three markers for me. why would you have kerkez come inside? His strength was going outside. It hasn’t worked. Ever. we’ve steadily lost our energy. We don’t break with pace and power. We look more lethargic. This is from mid last season to now. We’ve gotten slower and passive. we can’t press. We occasionally close. But we used to press and win high up the field, or restrict chances. Whatever we doing instead is not working. until these 3 areas are either addressed or shown to be replaced with a new philosophy, I’ll struggle to stay behind him. Despite whining and handwringing I want him to stay and be successful. Far better outcome for all than another change and upheaval. He’s shown he can both prior and here. And if he does, the learning of doing it here will take us higher too. Just need him to figure it out - at least the obvious stuff!

Doesn’t help that slot is so rigid. He has a list of players and their cover. No flexibility. not sure why Rio not even getting a look in anymore either.

Mama has a higher ceiling. Kerkez is 21 and all his positives and strengths are being ignored. Frimpong hasn’t barely played yet. Woodman? Really? Given how they’ve been set up, don’t think we can judge any of the new signings fairly yet. id try Dom and grav in the middle as the double pivot. Gakpo, Wirtz, Salah, with Isak up top. we got awesome forward firepower - let’s try and use it. oh, and keep full backs wide. Have kerkez stay outside and put crosses in.

I’m ok with a stop gap. Xavi, zidane or Carlo for example. Step in for 6 months, see how they go. Works for their future employability and surely can’t be worse than slot.

Yep. If you buy a player like that, at that age, you know what he can do. Let him do that. Why buy someone for 40mil and have him stop doing the things he does well?

Ok that’s a bit grim. yes we need center backs. And probably another winger. we have Robbo, kerkez, Bradley, Frimpong, Gomez for full back. Not exactly in desperation there. a 6 would be be nice. But in the meantime we have grav. nowhere near the job Klopp needed. any half decent manager pulls this together into a top 3-4 finish. slot has lost them. It happens. Someone just needs to make the decision. Unfortunately it’s unlikely to be made soon, because it’s us.

Went for a walk to clear the head, that pissed me off. Some whopper comments in the match thread, including me. 1. for me, this is firmly on the manager. The things we don’t like are so obviously coaching. The floaty crosses, passive play, no closing or pressing, low energy in first half. 2. players aren’t without blame. You can pass the ball 5 meters. You can be in the right place. You can time a tackle. 3. can’t blame the signings, jota, exits, squad depth etc. there is no excuse for less than 100% 4. slot is done. Don’t see how he comes back from this. Leave it too long, it impacts us long term. Call it now, even with a secondary coach through to end of season. 5. well done to the crowd. Would be easy to turn. Or even shout attack/press etc. not too late to finish top 4, but work to be done and quickly.
