I dont really blame Hodgson for going with who he knows and trusts, and has plenty of experience in this league...him plus Aurelio for LB is not ideal but definitely an improvement.

Think if it's anyone it's Hleb. That's not so bad, we've already got Poulsen in for Masch, Lucas to hold, ...Hleb is another option, ball carrier, quick. We need to get this Masch business sorted asap, he wants out, and there's no guarantee how much of 20+mill Roy would get back to spend. -
Another interpretation is that his aggressive, fan friendly strategy to get in the back door (buy debt via RBS) and f*** over the yanks backfired; and, as has been suggested by many, maybe it's just not possible for Broughton to conclude any deal without greasing H&G with some kind of profit.

With Aquilani it really looks like a fragile mentality compounded by a bad reaction to all the adverse shennanigans at the club since Rafa baught him. Add that to the possibility he finds it difficult to adapt and settle, as many do, and I'm prepared to give Hodgson credit for shipping the mopey b*****d out of the squad

I reckon the Hodge has Poulsen earmarked as the new Masch, not that he'd admit it - replace a 25mill player with a 5mill player! the fans would be outraged - so the Masch money when it comes in will go on a striker and LB. Nifty bit of business if Poulsen works out.

Despite the extremely precarious ownership/takeover situation I'm feeling optimistic about the coming season. A good start is vital, as is luck with injuries, but: League - 3rd behind Chelsea and Citeh FA Cup - Runners up UEFA Cup - Winners Gerrard, Cole, Johnson, Jovanovic, Pacheco all to shine
