Ex Real-Madrid star and Inter's forgotten Santiago Solari may be worth a look. Always impressed me when I watched him play.

C'MON UREDS!!!!!
-
Agree with that.

Would definetly start with Crouch ahead of Bellamy today. barca defenders are used to play vs bellamy type of players wheras Crouch think would scare the s*** out of them. Plus we are away so probably there will be some hoofing from the back at the sight of Ronaldinho runing towards em. Important thing is that we' ll score at the Nou Camp! .....................Reina......................... Finnan.......... Agger......Carra.......Auerelio Gerrard.......Alonso.......Momo.......Pennant/Gonzalez ...........Crouch............Kuyt.................... Predictions: Barca 2-1 Liverpool........Crouch to score. We' will then trash em at Anfield!

Anyone knows if he s in Spain with the rest of the CL squad?
-
Yup, cant think how i confused that one on my calendar. in any case it increases our chances of eliminating barca.

i am sure rafa has already drawn a detailed plan. i think over 2 legs we will come out as winners. i would try to keep it tight at the nou camp while trying to nick a goal on the counter. midfield id that department where we need to win the battle. i would not hesitate to play momo and hopefully mascherano deep, alonso in centre mid anf give gerrard a free role. bellamy to give us pace on the counter, and would move kuyt slightly to the left wing with orders to track back when they are in possession. tricky bit is that our first leg is at home so we need a mighty display from the boys that night. hopefully pennant will produce one of his best performances of his carrer so far. gerrard free role, alonso and momo to boss the midfield, bellamy and either one of kuyt or crouch upfront. that s how i humbly think we can beat them.

How many extra points would one outstanding attacking player get us
Toni replied to BG's topic in Liverpool FC
I'll second that. That s what we really need, but to manage to buy 2 world class wingers and Villa is no mean feat, both to identify who to buy and financially. I would humbly suggest to offload Kewell, Zenden, Fowler loan out Gonzalez to a Prmeiership club, keep pennant and garcia as back-ups, and BRING IN Villa, Alves and Ryan Babl Championship manager or not, those 3 similar additions would transform us into genuine title contenders. -
i would be happy if Rafa is backed enough to lure his FIRST choice targets to Anfield. if he bought Alves instead of Jermaine, perhpaps we would be far closer to manure. having said that, i think pennant is a young player with loads of potential. It is his first season at Anfield, so I am still hoping that in a couple of years he will resemble a certain Luis Figo....

These comments fill with me confidence. Really hope that Parry and Moores know what they re doing....

From the Mail Mascherano made his full international debut one year before his league debut for River Plate" Argentina arent really a nation short of quality players. He must be quality. Cant think why both Pardew and Curbishley chose not to give him a chance

which is why the board must rise to the occassion and accept that bid which most in the club's best interest. The Gillet bid is spooky to say the least: 1) They are acting in a glaringly obvious more pompous mercenary way; 'i will personally fund the stadium', 'we ll pay u more etc', a series of false promises crammed into a bubble waiting to burst; 2) Instead of a group solely appointed to administer the cluv we are going be at the mercy of one pompous man; 3) They completed their diligence in 3 f***ing days( shows how meticulously they plan things) 4) People in the know (dave u) are bewidered by the club's recent actions 5) the club s0 far have failed to (and will not) release a public statement to explain their actions. 6) saving any other statements clouded in my mind which i have not written in this post.

that doesnt mean anything! I for one dont want 'huge' funds. Dont want LFC to turn into the new chelski in the transfer market. I want enough for Rafa to be able to bring here his first-choice targets. we need a plan, a sound carefully preapred plan to be able and DIC seemed to have one.
-
Some great quotes from Al-Nasri as reported on the Daily Mail. Seems DIC are true fans of our club. The article by Dave U concerns me the most. Dunno but like many I trust DIC more than Gillet. It is a hunch feeling of course but from day 1 they seemed the sort of owners who would be the best option for LFC, financially, strategically, fans etc. They arent the pompous type who think that by solely buying big name players thwy are going to send us back to the glory days of the 80's. They seem to meticulously plan every single detail in order to achieve success. I am as pissed off as Dave U at the moment and can t believe what Moores and CO are doing to LFC! We have been fidgeting with potential investors for a couple of YEARS and when the right one comes along we f*** him off!!! They won t release a public statement cos they know they have betrayed their principles, the fans and above all the club. best interest of the club my a***!

me thinks we need him vs the blues**** as xabi is suspended

WH never really gave him a chance. he was in Argentina s squad for the wc. i think him and Gerrard would form an excellent partnership. he is the makalele type of player. keeps it simple but largely effective. as rafa says he gives us more possibilties. with him alonso and gerrard. i think we would see rafa using the 4-3-3 formation more often currently we do not possess the modern day text-book holding midfielder, which is of course the makalele type. mascherano may prove to add that type of quality to our sqaud

is it a done deal???? Liverpool complete Argentinian midfielder signing from anfield-online Javier MascheranoJust as the transfer window was finally getting ready to slam shut, Liverpool have completed the signing of Javier Mascherano, the Argentinian World Cup star, who has been rotting away out of sight at Premiership strugglers West Ham United. The reds have completed an 18 month loan deal for Mascherano from the Hammers after FIFA finally relented and relaxed their rule insisting a player could not play for more than two clubs in a season. As reported earlier this month, the player actually had his medical with Liverpool over 3 weeks ago. Rafa Benitez had this to say, and is hopeful that he has the power to turn Mascherano (who was a star of the Argentinian team in the 2006 World Cup) in to a great Premiership player: ?We have an agreement to take him on loan for 18 months then we have an option to sign him permanently. ?He is a top class player and the only question is whether he can play to his level in England. But I know he can play a lot better than he did at West Ham.? Benitez pointed to a number of factors in his favour: ?West Ham are a fantastic club but maybe it wasn?t the right club for him,? he said. ?Maybe Liverpool can be a better option for him because we can speak in Spanish to him and we play a different style of football.? The signing is widely predicted to be Liverpool?s only signing in the January transfer window which could impact significantly on the first team. However Liverpool are now out of both domestic cup competitions, have 14 critical Premiership games left, a two-legged affair against Barcelona, and Rafa is notorious for not playing first team squad players in reserve fixtures

Great minds think alike.

only saw alves play once but acc. to comments from people on here he can do all that.

eh?

imo we still need to add a CM instead of bolo who s not up to standard. a WINGER is able to whizz past defenders. a CD if Sami leaves a RB to cover for Finnan. a quality STRIKER who is able to send Crouch at 4 th place in the pecking order (with robbie leaving.) Thus imo we need 4/5 quality players! Something like Masceherano, Ryan Babl (Ajax), Chivu (Roma) Richards/ G.Johnson, Villa/ Huntellar, would do nicely.

he has a good cross in him, good technique. only thing he h s half a yard short in pace. For him to become a regular first-teamer in the years to come he needs to consistently beat opposing full-backs and whip in dangerous crosses from the byline. when i consistently see him doing that, then he will win me over. until then he remains a decent squad player in my eyes.

Reina 7 - didnt have much to do, but what he did,he did well. Finnan 8- Solid performance at the back. made good use of the ball throughout the whole match Carra 9 - commading presence in defence, shut out drogba completely. Agger 7.5 - not as commanding as carra, but very composed and did a sound job in the heart of our defence Aurelio 8 - solid defensively and provided width down the flank Pennant 7.5 - Great goal, didnt give away possession, but would like him to attack full-backs more down the line. Gerrard 7.5 - not his usual commanding self but did a great job in holding a compact and solid midfield Alonso 7.5 - started game brightly but after the knock his performance dropped a littele. Riise 6.5 - great strike, but needs to raise his game to another level, looks a bit rusty. Crouch 6.5- Good all-round contribution, but needs to learn how to become more dangerous in the box. Kuyt 7.5 - Brilliant goal, great all-round contribution, but for me should have scored at least another. Bellamy- No vote, but looked instantly dangerous, and gave a whole new dimension to the team, esp. width.

see. we just need to add kaka ronaldinho and lahm to our team and we will conquer england and europe again.
