I'd take him. Strictly on our terms though. Pay as you play 1 month rolling contract. With an option to sign him permanently and for a low basic if it works out. I wouldn't budge an inch for the goal shy little runt he is. Doubt he'd go for it though he'd rather turn out for stoke or hull for a bit more cash and a few more games.

We'll need another RB for sure if Arbeloa goes. Distin is a good shout if he's available for that sort of money.

I really want a new right back. I wanted one from the start of the window. I thought it was as weak a position in our squad as LW / LF. I'm not sure about this one though. I've not really seen anything in Johnson when I've watched him to make me think he's good enough. I'm really not sure about £18.5m. that that's the fee anyway, but if it is... That's an awful lot no matter how you spin it. I had hoped a right back could be found who could also cover at CB and had hoped we could keep Arbeloa. I'm also not sure in squad terms about condensing Arbeloa and Dossena into one player... Unless Degan's ready, and Buchtman's ready, we might see a few games (an injury or rest for Johnson and an injury to Aurelio) next year with Carra at RB, Insua at left back and Darby being the only defender on the bench.

They can't sign 2 top players to replace him unless they're gonna start playing with 12 players on the pitch.

I'm suggesting that it's less mental than buying "cover" for Arbeloa and a 4th choice CB. That would not improve us beyond having 2 more players in the squad that'll maybe play 15 games between them if they're lucky (or we're not in terms of injury). It would also give us further problems down the line shifting players who would be, in most likelihood, not good enough. We'd be better improving our 1st XI right back and keeping Arbeloa for cover. That makes far more sense than patching over the biggest hole in the squad and spending big on another attacker. By all means I think we should be looking to buy another attacker, especially if we can recoup some money from sales. Ideally. I'd want to sign Ramos and swap out Dossena, Lucas and Babel for Silva and Barry. But a RB who can play CB would be my first priority.

If I was manager, my first target would be Ramos. And I'd be willing to blow the whole transfer budget on him. Probably even sell Babel to fund it. We have a massive gap at RB, and a gap at CB. One player should be bought to fill those gaps for the next 4-5 years. Pissing about buying Johnson and / or not quite good enough "cover" CBs is a crap idea I think. One player. A better right back than Arbeloa and cover for CB. IF we have anything left over, then address the LW / AM slots.

No.1 is definitely the priority. No.2 sign Ramos no.3 sign Silva no 4 Sign Barry nos.2-4 can be done in any order but must be done unlike last year.

I'd take Curtis Davies.

Or Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou.
