Perhaps I've missed it, but I'm surprised Rick Parry (or David Moores) hasn't given a statement/interview welcoming the decision by the council and how we can all look forward to a shiny new ground and a better Anfield for all. As someone else posted I am sure we have the funding in place or we wouldn't have come this far with the new ground plans. We have the opportunity to be seen as the leaders and driver of the regeneration of Anfield, which would give us centre stage and further increase our standing in the local community, but we don't appear to want to take advantage of this. Instead we seem to prefer lurking in the background. I find this rather odd.

It will be going out on a high with us though, much better than becoming a shadow of its former glory. Beardsley was never the same after he signed for them was he?

All you could hear at Wembley at the 84 Milk Cup Final were chants of Merseyside, Merseyside. It was a very proud moment, as I don't believe you would have heard City and Utd chanting Manchester, Spurs and Arsenal chanting London etc etc. Sh*te game though. If we weren't going to win something, have always wanted Everton to win instead. Still do, but unfortunately there are more d*ckheads around these days - on both sides unfortunately.

Possibly, but prices are set by the selling club not us. We have set our sights on a number of players in the last couple of transfer windows that we have chased and chased before deciding that we can't/won't pay the asking price. We are then left scrambling round trying to find an alternative/bargain. Perhaps Rafa is getting better with more experience in the transfer market and has his alternatives (Pennant, Bellamy) already lined up this summer. Still poses the question why are we targetting players that end up out of our price range.

Come on get with the programme. You're supposed to make patronising posts repeating the mantra that if Rafa's happy, I'm happy. If he doesn't sign Alves, it's cos he has a price ceiling that he simply won't go above no matter what (although he appears to have done this last year with Crouch). The Alves deal doesn't appear to be completely dead yet, but seeing as Rafa has been chasing him for getting on for 2 years, you do have to wonder about our negotiation techniques or the way we value potential signings.
