    The Times

I seem to remeber GH saying that Platini actually recommended Diao to him!
  3. Quite possibly! (it was a bit tongue in cheek!)
  4. That was may first thought as well. Carra seems to be a tad obsessive (in a good way)about the game in general and may be more interested in the finer points of tactics and such. He seems to know his role inside out as well as everyone elses(!) and he seems a natural orgainiser. Could certainly see him being a great coach. Maybe some players may find Gerrard more inspirational to play for though?Perhaps we've got a new 'dream team' managerial team of both Carra & Gerrard - coach & manager?!
  5. Oh I completely agree. I couldn't see it working long term. We did play some good stuff in those few games IIRC - just left us wide open. I seem to remember Owen getting a mild rebuking from GH after he said that he very surprised that we played that way in the derby.
  6. It mught be interesting to see who makes the more successful manager Carra or Gerrard, if they go down that road.
  7. Im sure we won a derby (3-0?)with that midfield though! The other interesting point in that article was mentioning the confidence of other past keepers - presumably Dudek (& Kirkland?)
  8. No quotes but... The Greek starlet impressed Rafael Benitez during a pre-season training stint with the Reds, and the Spaniard made a move to sign his permanently prior to the transfer deadline. However, PAOK Salonika slapped a price tag of £700,000 on the player, who is considering appealing to Uefa to intervene and release him from his contract so he can move to Anfield. He has refused to return to the Greek club, and is determined to get his dream move sooner rather than later. >>>
  9. LIVERPOOL are ready to go back in with an improved offer to land Lucas Neill before the transfer window closes today. A bid believed to be in the region of £2million has already been rejected by the Australian defender's club, Blackburn Rovers. But Neill is keen on a move to Anfield despite the best efforts that Rovers will make today to persuade him to stay. The Lancashire club have made a stuttering start to the season, with the draw against Everton last Wednesday being their only point in three Premiership games, and are reluctant to lose their influential defender. But they anticipated Liverpool's interest by signing Dutch centre-half Andre Ooijer from PSV Eindhoven last week. However, Blackburn manager Mark Hughes led his team to Europe last season on the back of a solid defensive unit so is keen to avoid Neill going the same way as Craig Bellamy did earlier in the summer, when the lure of Anfield proved too much to resist. It is also understood that Rovers are not particularly anxious to cash in on Neill - who will be a free agent at the end of the season - before the end of the August deadline. The 28-year-old, who first came to England 11 years ago to play for Millwall, can technically buy himself out of his current contract if he insists on making the move. But the negotiations that this would involve are unlikley to be completed before the end of today anyway. Should Liverpool land their man, the right-sided defensive cover this will give manager Rafael Benitez is likely to seal Jan Kromkamp's protracted move back to Holland and PSV Eindhoven. Neill's trademark tough tackling is well known to Liverpool supporters after his reckless lunge at Jamie Carragher in September 2003 broke the Liverpool defender's leg and kept him out for most of that season. He was shown the red card for the two-footed tackle in that game at Ewood Park and has already been dismissed once this season, on the opening day of the campaign against Portsmouth. Although most of his time at Rovers has been spent at right-back, he can play in central defence, where he excelled in the World Cup for Australia. His performances in helping the Aussies reach the knock-out stages have convinced Benitez that he has the quality to improve his options in the back four. >>>>
  10. Rafa was asked in Kuyts PC whether the morrocan kid had signed and he said no.

  13. Benitez said: "All the Juventus players are good players. They will be a better price now than they would have been three months ago. There are possibilities for a loan arrangement. If there is a good player and he is professional, that is not a problem for me. Trezeguet is one who would be a good player for us." Hither
  14. Rafa made a comment about Aurelio when he signed, something like - if he stays fit, he'll be an important player for us. I thought it was a bit odd at the time but maybe this is the sign of things to come for him. Lets hope not!
  15. Definately decided via video replay then! Domenech: "The referee saw nothing, the assistant referee saw nothing and then we have the fourth official seeing the video replay and telling the referee." Lippi: "You will realise that it was not Materazzi who got the attention of the referee," the Italian said. "It was the fourth and fifth officials looking at the video at the edge of the pitch. "We did not do anything. They saw it and they called the attention of the referee. "Materazzi was not acting. He took a blow and he was hurt." Hither
  16. thats nice......thats McDermot,,,,,and thats a goal!!!!!
  17. Hither "It was a big surprise to me when I got a phone call from Benitez saying I should leave," Cisse told the News of the World. "He told me bluntly: 'There's no room for you here.' I was so upset because I don't want to leave Anfield. "After that conversation, I have no alternative but to try to find another club at least for now. "So I have agreed to go to Marseille in October when I am fit again, but only on loan. "I want the Liverpool fans to know the truth. They have made me so welcome and been very supportive. "I want them to know it is not my choice to leave Liverpool."
  18. He signed in 2002 for 5 years. If this happens - "Another player seemingly on his way out of Anfield in the near future is forgotten man Bruno Cheyrou. Reports from France suggest Rennes are ready to make a move for the outcast midfielder, claiming a transfer could even be finalised before the end of the week. Cheyrou spent last season on loan at Bordeaux, but the Ligue One side chose not to take up their option to make the move permanent." - then this will be his last season associated with us.
  19. "I am waiting for the club's decision," Cisse said to Tf1. "Marseille and Liverpool are still negotiating my transfer. "What do I want? I want to play for Marseille. "They are the club in my heart that I supported as a child." hither
  20. Does anyone else seem to think that Gerrard is setting himself up to be the next captain? Ive seen a number of little clips on the coverage now, of him geeing everone else on and him being the first one to speak to younger players (eg at the end of the first game, he went straight up to Lennon and had a word with him after him largely changing the game when he came on) and that kind of thing. Its presumably a toss up between him & Terry and with the way hes performing both with & without the ball and also with the media, I think hes nudging ahead of Terry.

  23. Dein was on R5 this morning and said that the 2 spanish clubs had enquired as to his availabilty. There was no mention of any fees. Bizarely yesterdays express said that Henry actually didn't have a choice to make as Barca couldnt afford him anyway. Today the express have this £50M story!

    Hamann

I believe one of the stipulations of that contract was that if he played so many games this season he would automatically earn an extra year which he did, so he'll probably be here next season.
  25. Yes he did say it was crap.
