  1. I love how these idiots think stuff just disappear if you take down a photo or delete a Facebook/Twitter status...
  2. From his twitter account: https://twitter.com/1996joewilliams/status/404717380506755072/photo/1
  3. Was it just me or was there something like a one step discrepancy* between the two teams in this game? * Meaning a foul for us was nothing when they did the same, a booking for us meant a foul for them and what would be a red for us was just a yellow for them. Or am I too far into CORRUPTION territory with that?
  4. No scandals or anything (I realize I made it sound that way). He's simply a legend because of his attitude and charisma - as cheesy as that sounds. He's always been a great role model and has had an overall positive influence on everyone around him.
  5. Ban Croatia and give their spot to the team that they played in the playoffs! http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/nov/20/croatia-josip-simunic-defends-apparent-pro-nazi-chant
  6. We were still in it until their second goal just at the start of the second half. When that went in our players seemed to lose faith. All in all Croatia were the better team though. Playing with 10 men for almost one half in the first game and losing our best striker in the first half in the first game probably cost us too much. And when it came to changing it up with subs we simply don't have enough quality in depth.
  7. If something like that ever comes up again I hope the manager is wise enough to let the two players get the chance to play together rather than sub one for the other. He's a legend here. But for other reasons.
  8. IMO the biggest and best moment of his career was about 95min into the second leg of the CL semifinal in 2005.
  9. So the adventure is over. This isn’t going to be a new Icelandic saga. The team still made us proud and gives us hope for the future. And to add to the sadness/sorrow/etc it seems yesterday was the last game for Eiður Smári with the national team as he revealed after the game. He’s considered to be the best footballer in the history of our nation. At the end of the interview he’s asked about his future with the national team (see video in link at about 2:20), and at least to us Icelanders it’s a quite emotional moment… His answer was simply “I’m afraid this was my last game for the team”. http://www.ruv.is/frett/akvordun-eids-vekur-athygli-um-vida-verold (just thought I’d share this video with you even if it’s in Icelandic and doesn’t have english subs - his reaction when he hears the question is heartbreaking) * I’ll stop spamming you about the Icelandic team now
  10. And it's over... 2-0 for Croatia.
  11. Things looking up again. Mandzukic off, 39th minute.
  12. Croatia 1 - 0. 27min
  13. 0-0 (FT)! Our right fullback got sent off early in the second half. We're still in with a chance! :yes:/>
  14. Might be a good idea that! Except the FA would use it to find more relatives to give tickets. It's halftime, our best striker is off injured, the ref thinks different rules apply to the smaller team... But it's still 0-0 so there's still a chance!
  15. But 8 of us are pissed off (my SO couldn't care less about the game) - which makes a very significant proportion of the population pissed off!
  16. It is actually worse than what I said before. Of those 9500 tickets 1000 went to the Croats (understandably), 1500 to sponsors of the FA and 1500 to The Football Family™ (former and current players, the referee, reporters and "other groups invited"). Meaning a grand total of 5000 tickets went on sale. Which pissed off quite a few here in Iceland as you'd imagine! But thanks! I'll probably enjoy the game no matter how it ends!
  17. He's my new hero.
  18. Unfortunately not. Our "great" national stadium only has a capacity of 9500 and the ever competent Icelandic FA decided to start selling the tickets at 04:00 the day they went on sale unlike at noon like when they usually go on sale. And they didn't tell anyone about that change but their immediate friends and family (what? corruption in yet another FA? what a surprise…). And I just found out that if you don't want to watch such boring games as France v Ukraine or Portugal v Sweden (or the friendlies…) you should be able to watch Iceland play here.
  19. Thanks, we'll need it! The pessimist in me says we'll get trounced by the Croats though...
  20. Thanks! This is actually starting to feel a bit like a certain day in May 2005... not quite there but close. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup/10444971/Eidur-Gudjohnsen-ready-to-take-final-step-to-World-Cup-with-Iceland.html
  21. That actually made the news here in Iceland. I like it.
  22. Zlatan at the PC before the Sweden v Portugal game: - (What he thinks about the game tonight..) - Ibra: ”Only God knows.” - Reporter: ”Well, it's kinda hard to ask him.” - Ibra: ”You're talking to him now hehe.” How can you not like this guy?
  23. So Iceland plays Croatia today in the qualifiers. Aren't you all excited about the game? http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/15/sports/soccer/iceland-is-building-a-national-team-to-watch.html?_r=0
  24. from here: http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/arsenal-1st-man-united-2nd-spurs-3rd-what-the-premier-league-table-looks-like-after-the-last-38-games-graphic/
  25. Yes... because traveling as a VIP usually shows you the reality rather than a carefully selected view of life...
