  1. Tosh and Smithdown totally agree with both points and was gonna make them when posting... just didn't want to overload the initial post with questions!! was actually thinking about Flanagan and how much it'd cost us to say buy him from the likes of Blackburn if he had started there... probably the one player I can think of who didn't necessarily stand out at a young age, and in fact who took a lot of stick, but who benefitted from already being with us and being given opportunities to improve from within, is Carra? We probably would never have bought him... I do wonder though if some of the slightly better than average young players would be better served and give themselves more opportunity to try and make it with mid table clubs, or even lower table clubs in the PL rather than slogging it out thinking they are gonna make it at us...? do well and then they might even make the move back, or at least have a career around the same type of clubs. Too many of the players who leave us are never really heard of again except for at lower league clubs chewie
  2. in the past week both we and the scum have forked out shed loads for two lads who have developed their careers at clubs like Sunderland and Blackburn. Is it the case that these guys are genuinely just better footballers than some of the players in our youth ands reserve ranks, or are they maybe marginally better but have been given more opportunities at the top level and so have 'proved' themselves (if that is possible given the short span of their careers to date...) it is obvious we are developing our own young players from within but for these young players what is the better route to success... actually playing first team level football regularly in the PL at the age of 19-20 with everyone saying - he's a good player in the bandwagoning fashion that is the media circus surrounding the PL, or developing at the academy etc? With Henderson and Jones is it a like for like with say Shelvey (only one year younger than Jordan) or Wilson, or are these the sort of players who, like Owen was at a young age, simply stand out and you know they are truly better than their peers and the best young player in their position by a country mile (cos on that note there has been nothing to suggest that Henderson has stood out like say Wilshere has)? Any thoughts Chewie
  3. Now that it's official n all a big welcome to Jordan. Nice first interview and this is the last line..coulda been spoken by the king himself... here's hoping he keeps learning from the king.. Asked about a message to the fans... "Hopefully they'll enjoy watching me as much as I'll enjoy playing for this club." Good lad...now go win some league titles Chewie

    Xabi Alonso

stuff endless 5 year plans! I'd rather restructure around success and if stevie g and alonso bring that in the next 2-3 seasons their successors will emerge or muscle them out...build on success, I reckon that's the way to do it... Flaming heck what are we talking about alonso v Adam or Henderson ... Who'd give us the best next 3 seasons!? Heck Henderson will only be 23 by that time... Come home xabi Chewie

Just watching it on recorded ...what a strange final answer eh...it wasn't a diplomatic batting away...it was a genuine 'yeah, it could happen...' My favourite player of the last 6 years...could it really happen?!? Chewie

  12. Hey huyton...I remember you! I was Captain Solo back then...spot the trend:-) Enjoyed reading it... Also felt it ended quite quickly with less detail on sale and nesv but maybe that reflects who they are and the way they go about things.... The first we hear from them about anything is when they've done something...Inc buying us!! Chewie
  13. Weird tho as bar the new players (who weren't here) the same line up 6 months ago may have caused many (Inc me) to weep and quiver in despair... Long live the king Chewie
  14. not at all... in these days...who could be enemies chewie
  15. course we did... but there's just so much speculation around with forums and twitter etc etc and itk's claiming to know details about who's coming and so on and yet this club has managed in the last few months to make major announcements and keep its own house in order. No leaks, no loose talk, you'll know when you need to know... it's just right Chewie
  16. absolutely... the real point tho is that no-one had a sniff... not one itk called it, not one journo said... it's likely to be announced today / tomorrow / fill in the blank... no one saw Carroll coming, or the announcement of Ayre as MD, or Warriors... the club has gone old skool, in house, when we've something to say we'll tell ya and when you need to know about a player you'll see him holding a red scarf over his head at Anfield... it's great and it's why for all the speculation in the transfer thread there is just this feeling that the club will, at least with some of its dealings, simply announce someone we hadn't seen coming...or (because we've been linked with everyone it's hard for someone not to say - I told you so)... we never really expected... just lovin it... all of it... Kenny, the young players, the pass n move, the unity, the belief, the professionalism, the direction... it's just right isn't it! Chewie
  17. No one saw it coming when it did... We all knew there'd be a contract, we all guessed when it might be announced but like the appointment of Ayre, the promotion of Comolli, the deal with Warriors, the signings of Suarez and Caroll we now seem to be a club that is doing things the right way...unified and proactive and behind closed doors... It kinda makes me wonder about the summer...of course some of our signings are gonna be players we've been linked with as we've been linked with so many and it's not as if players aren't in the public eye... I just think this club will take us all by surprise once or twice this summer..the whole thing feels like they know what they're doing and it hasn't felt that way in such a long time... Fantastic Chewie

    Kenny

what a day...anyone remember not so long ago the offal did a poll on the greatest ever player... we now have no. 1 as our boss and no. 2 as our captain...both bleed Liverpool Football Club... the liverbird is rising out of the ashes of umentionable despair statistically speaking we are where we are 12 months ago...but everything has changed... who'd have thought we would be in this position ... it's actually almost been worth it to go through all that to get to this Chewie
  19. the answer to this thread is very simple.. we are a better team with Kenny and Gerrard will be part of that team Chewie

    Kenny

was funny when the camera cut to stevie tonight listening to kenny evade questions about the future and his appointment. stevie had a grin a mile wide watching that... no fear at all about the future... I'm one of the few who thinks they won't announce it until the season is completed...to me that'd be old school. the focus on Sunday, I'm sure the King would agree, is 3 points. I think he gets a little embarassed by the attention he gets and constantly bigs up the players and the staff...not like the idiot who only talked about how good he was and how bad the players were... reckon it'll be - get the three points off Spurs, finish strong, day after the league finishes there'll be a press conference confirming all the details we need to hear... on to June 1st and announce all the new signings... Chewie
  21. boy that's ugly...but that's luis  Chewie
  22. Lucas speed of passing now is a joy to behold...what a development in his game... Brilliant Chewie

    Ian Ayre

Over half way thru the epic swindle book and a number of things became recurring themes in my mind... 1. how pitiful we were marketed for such a long time meaning our first sale was needless 2. The club is now global and no longer just about the community of Liverpool ... we are, like it or not, a brand / franchise 3. All the lingo we hear now from FSG we heard from statler and waldorf which as I read makes me fearful thinking ...this could really just happen again...(read on) 4. The approach (if not the financing of it) between the two is fairly similar...at Boston and Dallas and indeed at liverpool there has been a willingness to sign big players for big sums.. We saw that between 07-09, it happened under Hicks at Dallas and the Red Sox.. what flipped the switch for our idiots was an unworkable relationship and a global credit squeeze...anyhow, both FSG and H&G have spent big (the latter using debt to do so..,) 5. The thing that seems to make the difference is that H&G seemed to have no clear strategy that seems to prevail with FSG - a global sports and entertainment business, staking their reps on the biggest and most iconic names across various sports with a clear financial plan and a new more astute governance of lfc. It is only this that makes me hope... What worries me though is whether the American sports system - drafting and balancing strong and weak teams over time - allows them to dream of a Bastion of invincibility... Have they dominated the world series or just won one? Will they build to get that one moment of crowning glory that we will bask in and that revenues will flow from due to our brand or will there be the stomach to compete year in year out, seeing the league as our bread and butter? We are, undoubtedly, in much more astute and capable hands right now but I guess only time will tell if we will ever dare to believe of dominating again not just for one or two seasons, but one or two decades...one step at a time tho eh...and to date their steps seem a little more sure footed than the last shower.. Chelsea have worked the 4-3-3 very well... are we starting to look like the same even with the players we have (allowing for a variety of positional switches involving same players) Gerrard/shelvey Lucas/spearing/gerrard Mereiles/cole Kuyt/maxi/cole/gerrard Caroll/kuyt Suarez/maxi/cole If we add one genuine CM and one genuine attacking/creative player to each of those banks of players, use the kids then I reckon we're in decent shape (allowing also for trading up on one or two of those where poss..) That bunch can also do 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 and 4-5-1 or even 3-5-2 as kenny has played this. Strong fullbacks are key to this IMHO Chewie
  25. fair enough all... seems like others know more than me about the man... just a gut reflection on the portrayal in one BBC profile. I think what struck me was how they have had their stories too. Neither club has ever wanted the history it has gathered nor identities that are fashioned out of the tragic ashes of Munich and Hillsborough... but nonetheless it is who we both are. Their triumphs have been linked to their pains and so have ours. What resonated with me was that Charlton saw both. If he's an otherwise sullied sort then I'm not privy to that... but I take on board the thoughts of others... Chewie
