I think for them it'll be like us in 2001... everything to play for, confidence you can beat anyone, feeling that this is your year... plus they have 3/4 players not available through suspension who all will play and rest other players... don't think this helps us at all, but then it's up to us to help ourselves.. so c'mon might reds! [quote name='The walters step over' timestamp='1335285027' Kenny went into a meeting to sort out Rooneys agent situation with one of the biggest gangsters in the country, no offence to your guy that "knows a guy who is in the know" but I can't see him being bullied out of doing anything by Comolli - can you? Eh...elaborate... Please Ta Chewie

It just happened, again. It always does. Had the champs league semi on record so just watching now...and there he was, being interviewed in the wrong shirt, again. And it made me sad, again. Xabi Alonso His arrival coincided with it all going right, his departure when it all started to go wrong. Far and away my favourite former player who is still playing the game, and perhaps one of my favourite ex-reds full stop. Who's yours...? Chewie

aye, I know...w as gonna put in 'since the turn of the century yada yada... !!'. This is why the club is special though. We've been deemed poor for quite some time now and yet under three different managers we've won all those trophies. If Carra and Stevie actually ever won the league they'd have won every domestic and european medal available to them... scary! I think this is why other clubs do fear Liverpool... if this is what we're like when we're going through a downturn what will happen if we get our act together 5 May 2012...could it be another special day in May... anyone still remember the scenes from 86 when lads were swinging in through windows about 50 ft up!! was that anyone on here??!!! btw... for those complaining about how bad we were today in the first half...course we were, when we gubbed them 3-1 in 86 we didn't look too hot for about 55 minutes either, but ya know what.... I didn't care then at the end of 90 and I don't care now!! on days like that day and this day it's who's wearing the smiles at the end that matters We're in the cup final...sorry schmuck - don't mean to ruin it on ya (but it's not on the beeb anyway ) Chewie

what'd he say?

Absolutely brilliant...totally made up. still remember school playground debates on whether winning the league or the cup was better... used to be the showpiece game of the season. Last match on a sunny day in May at Wembley. Oldest and biggest domestic cup competition in the world. The FA bleeding cup final... in this era of finishing 4th and feeling satisfied we are in the FA cup final... You gotta love this club. Even in one of the supposedly leanest eras in our history the last decade has seen the Uefa cup, two FA cups, two league cups, the Champions league, 2 european super cups, and now the FA cup final again... what a club... This is the crunch time imho for FSG. bigger than making a statement with spending the nando money, bigger than weighing and measuring what to do about the stadium, bigger than the apparent scouring the world within the first 6 months for a CEO and ending up with Ayre. So far we've heard from Werner that they are not happy with how things have gone, that they have a strategy to be implemented and that Comolli was not the man to implement it. We've also heard from Wayne about the players meeting and the promise of really big signings. Given the role Comolli played with regard to scouting and signing players it is inconceivable that we have made this move now without some means of moving forward on the targets for next summer. What also seems very strange is that, if we are to take Kenny at his word, and he and Comolli worked by Kenny identifying players and DC signing them that somehow the club has a strategy that DC could not implement. I know I haven't explained that well, but think about it. DC did scouting and made recommendations. Kenny brings his own nous and insights into the table. They agree on players, present the strategy to the moneymen and try and see it achieved. Unless we think that Werner and Henry are now identifying players then who thought up the strategy that DC is not capable of delivering? It either has to be Kenny, working behind DC and dealing directly with the owners, or Kenny is as much in the dark as DC and awaiting his curtain call. These strategies are surely not thought up in April. Plans surely have been in place for months now about targets, players available, players who can be sold. This must have been done by Kenny and DC working together because that was their job. I went to bed having read the BBC breaking news about LFC being possibly interested in opening talks with Cruyff and thought that the last thing this club needs now is major upheaval, allied to endless speculation, without any concrete plans being in place. If we got rid yesterday of the men we got rid of then I am truly hoping that we have done so because we know exactly who is coming in to do their jobs. The very thought that we have woken up this morning to a meeting between the decision makers with a blank piece of paper and a flip chart for a think-tank of names chills me to the bone. For now I am taking at face value the club are making plans for a better next season, have plans for the player transactions that need undertaking, have a clear idea about who is going to direct such operations, and are working to a very clear strategy. But until they prove it then the jury is out big time. The role DC was supposedly playing was the strategy role, the long term think tank, overseeing the direction of the club and so on. To say 'we have a strategy he was not capable of implementing' must mean that the strategy for quite some time now has being developed by someone else. Who that person is is now key. Even though I really want him to be the man to make the difference for us I am not sure that Kenny has given the new owners enough evidence on the pitch for them to completely revise the strategy based on dealing directly with him.... of course this is all based on the premise that when we see X happening it now means, in the era of spin etc, that really W,Y and Z are what really matters. What may have happened is that they've had 12months to really watch a guy work and have decided he really ain't that great so better to get rid and move on... if that is the case then unless Kenny and DC have actually been quite distanced from one another this past year, it is difficult to see how they can form such a different impression of the King... The season ends in 4-6 weeks. Our dealings between now and the end of June will tell us whether or not FSG are the real deal or just another bunch of cowboys. This is the most critical time of their tenure and will, imho, make or break our aspirations for any sort of success in the future. They've acted, now let's see if they continue to act or are just reactive... Chewie

The strategy is Cruyf this May, followed by Pep in 12 months... Comolli could never deliver that... Chewie (You heard it hear first...cos I made it up here first...)

Merely thinking out loud and did say i know it could all be codswallop and that the owners would not be so daft. The bigger question for me is can we take from this that they are hitching their aspirations to giving kenny what kenny wants and I don't think they have the history with the legend or the evidence in the present to suggest they should. That being the case we have to question what will now happen as either kenny will have more control or he will be less secure in the restructuring..and its hard to see it would be the former at this stage... I have no idea about the truth of any of this, but a few weeks ago collymore was talking about how surprised he was to find the training methods at Liverpool to be sol old fashioned back when he signed in the early 90s. The inference to traditional methods would concern me but as i say it could be pure codswallop. It would be hard to conceive of FSG being blind to advances in modern sports science or being suckered into any regime that looks to operate like it was 30 years ago (though the trophies would be nice )!! Someone somewhere today said FSG were unhappy with the feedback from Comolli and that he and Kenny just backed one another up...anyone have anymore insight on this ? If kenny is safe then the timing, after the recent run of games, is a phenomenal backing from the owners, and it would be hard to see why they would make such a huge endorsement of a man they have only known for just over one year in a sport they know very little about...especially given his hand in the signings made and their declaration at the beginning of the year that the top 4 was the aim. .....
