The clear sense from this is that his representatives saw Germany as the better option whether because of the ownership issue or, perhaps more simply, there's more money to had for all involved when playing in the CL. And perhaps that was the player's preference in the end too, when all cards were on the table. Its disappointing but until we get to the top again, it's likely to repeat.

How, given they couldnt talk to the player? Think there's been a massive amount of game playing and that point about ownership of him - bizarre concept to be saying - would not be in an issue in Germany as it is here, has to have played a part in this.

Surely the kind of fitness required by a top class keeper is very specific to being a top class keeper and not about impressing ladies (amongst others) on a beach? Though the original story that he was not focused on game fitness before January, was considered being dropped, and showed a marked improvement in the following months still fits anyway

Don't think that's a very sustainable argument though: mignolet was (at least) 4 mill cheaper than Begovic (quoted price) and Alberto the same price as ince. I still wonder that so much of the info we have on the Mickatarian guy comes from the block voting Eurovision countries - has there been any local evidence that points to him being a primary target for this window, as opposed to one of many we are interested in?

All four, including Mignolet, are an improvement on Downing, in his best position, so don't think that's a fair comment at all.

Well substituting words in the way you did, to make inferences the way you did, is in itself a sly underhand tactic. The facts are Alonso stated his view of the events and Rafa in turn stated his. Who you believe tends to come down to who you want to believe. Suarez in contrast is openly acting like a complete t**. To debate the matter is to be wilfully obtuse. Hence the hippopotamus.

Agreed but the flip of that is lots of agents claim clubs have been interested when they haven't - just don't know for sure are we actually interested in this player, above all else, or was he one of the many on a list of potentials? As you say, no real way of knowing that for definite at this stage so no point in gnashing teeth and what not
