  1. Agree he was an MOTM contender, and his late energy was absolutely vital to turning the result round (and seriously impressive. Apparently Bournemouth are the fittest team in the league, but he was looking stronger than any of them still). Tactics nerds will know better, but as an 8, which is how Slot sees him, would we not expect sometimes to try things in the final 3rd which have risk, but cover (incl a 6) would mitigate?
  2. Lot of context to last night, and agree with radio caller who said we'll just have to score more goals than the opposition for a bit until we sort ourselves out defensively, including, possibly most importantly, midfield. Not overly concerned that Arne won't get it right, nor that Macca, Konate, Virgil, Kerkez et al don't consistently have better games in them. Fwiw, I thought Gakpo was fine, if less dynamic than Diaz, and Dom was one of our better players last night, especially his forward momentum.
  3. If we can turn a blind eye to Phil Collins, anything goes.
  4. Even Carroll had Blackburn away, fun because it annoyed Big Sam so much. And if Cech hadn't pulled off a genuinely miraculous save, he'd have a Cup Final equaliser as well. He's no Jack Witham.
  5. Especially as, iirc, Jota got a bad knock in that game when some big lump fell on him, which may have initiated the lung damage that ultimately lead to him driving back that night.
  6. Unlikely to get any better though
  7. His dad (Bromley Manager Andy Woodman) was on Talksport at the weekend talking EFL, but they got onto Freddy, and he said pretty much the same thing about the role; but was also gushing about how Liverpool had been with Freddy, how Arne had spoken to him personally about his son, manager to manager, how brilliant and professional the whole setup was.
  8. Fountains Rd, opposite the Saddle Inn. 15-20 minutes walk, easy get away down Stanley Rd and past Bank Hall to the Dock Rd.
  9. Yeah, all dancing and optics at the moment, but the deal is done (waiting for an adidas-clad announcement, I suspect)
  10. Quite right too, and plenty pointed out that was covered by insurance. I would expect that his transfer/asset value was also covered in case of injury that meant he couldn't play again. Not sure if it would extend to these circumstances
  11. Sensitive point, but presumably we will be getting an insurance payout for Jotas value as an asset? Adds to our capacity to spend which I haven't seen factored in, generally
  12. One of those holding a recent OT record for goals scored in a half, iirc. Salah being one other before a Utd player features. Good times, will always think fondly of him
  13. To score a bench rage hat trick
  14. Good luck to him. Understand the logic and football sense, but do think his contribution is underestimated on here, especially last season. He was a big part of us being brilliant early doors, had a bit of a drop off around the turn of the year, but when we just started to look a bit leggy towards the end, he was one who stepped up, worked his goolies off and added real drive and momentum. Rousing song as well that got the whole crowd going. Thanks, Lucho.
  15. Nunez always looks better on the left, maybe Slot's plan all along.....(takes cover)
  16. Iirc, he wasn't regularly starting in that first season until about November (for those comparing this summer to 87). Barnes was an immediate hit though. I couldn't get past the 'goal' vs Wimbledon without sobbing
  17. That video for me says, yes, looks good doesn't he, but wait till you see him in the flesh. Can't wait. An observation. Strikes me he is the opposite of the likes of the (wonderful) Thiago. His style when receiving the ball on the half turn was to let it do the work for him, and when he ran with it, barely seemed to touch it. Wirtz seems to be manipulating the ball much more, both first touch (as someone has pointed out, already towards where he wants it to go next) and dribbling, where he often looks on the point of losing it (a trait some great dribblers have had, don't want to name names, but if you know...). Shares the same effortless and frictionless passing though, especially short range. Still can't wait.

    Joey Jones

Always loved the asymmetry of one FB - Neal - who was thoughtful and tactical, combining intelligently with the midfield and Dalglish; and one absolutely mad b*****d flying down the wing on the other side or launching into their winger. Was a great defender, and one you would look to if it got a bit rough out there. A true Red, RIP Joey lad.
  19. Blues are (rightly) proud of their new stadium being selected for the Euros when they come here in 2028. Watching the Women's Euros, it struck me that the current format is that the host grounds have their name very prominently displayed on the ad boards. But, it seems, what is shown is the actual location, not the team or stadium name. So in big f*** off letters, for their big event, it will proclaim the name LIVERPOOL. Fume incoming (Just hope shoddy work there doesn't reflect on us)
  20. Certainly did, an absolute blinder of a header at the Anny Rd end.
  21. That turn and pass for Rushie's goal is one of my all time favourite King Kenny moments. He knows what he is going to do and where to find Rush about 2 passes before it gets to him. And TBF, so does Rush.
  22. Crossed my mind as I watched that. Ferguson never one to let a grudge fade.
  23. Iirc he nearly scored a worldie in the first leg of that tie, chipped over the defence and ran into it himself, but goalie saved well

    Parade

Couple of observations from the day. Managed a decent spec at the start, then very easily got into town via South Parkway (Merseyrail), stationed ourselves at the end of Old Hall Street, waited about an hour. All good. Was a fantastically diverse, inclusive, joyous party and a brilliant advert for the club and fanbase that demolishes the position of those post-event agenda-pushing b*****ds, as well as the more football-specific and xenophobic anti-'tourist' narratives we hear from time to time. No traffic around, the route barriered off so you couldn't even cross the road, police lined from 20 minutes out. But when the buses arrived - they went the wrong way (or had already gone down the wrong carriageway as they approached). The parade passed as if turning into Old Hall Street then had to manoeuvre through the lights to get onto the correct carriageway to go down to the Strand. This meant it passed through the crowds while the police and barriers were 30m to the right. Those on the Costco side of the road there went from having a grandstand view to a distant one, and had been waiting for hours for the privilege. We were able too swing over, not only a good view but some brilliant shots of Virgil surfing with the trophy. All good, if a bit messy. As we headed down to The Strand, still a joyous, selfie-taking, massively diverse crowd. No chance of catching the bus up, but experiencing the fireworks, smoke, roars, cruise ship horns. Utterly fantastic. However, in what is now really chilling, we heard a beep and looked round to see 2 cars coming down from where we had just been, effectively following the bus route into the Strand crowds. Very slow and good natured (the beeps were ones of celebration), but still begged the question of what the f*** they were doing there. One was a young woman driver with kids in, I could well imagine how scary it could get. (She was smiling and beeping along, going very slowly, but...) We turned up by the Passport Office and walked into Moorfields just before 6, on a train by 25 past, very well organised and managed TBF. Not sure how much the problems others had - or we might have had if 15 minutes later - because of the subsequent lockdown or general incompetence. Hoping we can all move on to enjoy the positives from the day soon, without diminishing concern and respect and love for those affected. * The criticism of some of the more obnoxious speculation is deserved, but not, imo, without it's counterpart on here, from an alternative and understandable perspective; but speculative none the less.
