  1. He left a pub in Formby at half time and went home to watch the second half!
  2. I suspect that second in the league is Rafa's main priority this season. This might also help transfers in the summer because you are guaranteed £10m from the Group stages.
  3. 501 but I'm not sure I'm influencing the score with my timing. Feels like a random number generator to me!!!
  4. Methinks his mastery of the English language is now a lot better than he wants to let on. In his TV interviews especially he likes to smile a lot and say very little - Mourinhos seen right through it though and knows that he is his most dangerous opponent.
  5. Once the initial pain of defeat has gone the one thing that comforts me is this. Rafa is removing the fear factor from our team when we play against the top teams. Going to OT or Chelsea the players used to have a real inferiority complex and were nervous on the ball and hoofed it anywhere to try and releive the pressure. The last two performances against the Mancs and Chelsea show that the team is believing that it can go there, play the better foorball and win. I know the record is poor against manU, Chelsea and Arsenal but that is because Benitex is willing to commit men forward and try and dominate the match. When he gets it right (more incisive attackers in the summer please!) it will be awesome. We had good results at OT under Houliier but that approach was proved to be limited. In order to win the title the players have to believe they are the best and that includes going head to head with these teams, not just tying to nick a win like a lower division side trys to do against a Premier League team in the FA Cup. I feel Benitez is making the players let go of the side of the pool, in doing this it's not easy at first and we lose some games and it's painful, but long term it is the thing that will make us Champions again.
  6. I think it was between us and Juve just before he left (Ajax??). Fagan tried really hard to get him. I actually think Figo would have been a revalation for a year or 2, and I think all the transfer malarky this season is rooted in our failure to get him - I think Benitez thought he was in the bag.
  7. Didn't there used to be an LFC fanzine called "another wasted corner" in the 80's. Apart from a brief spell under Houllier we've always been crap at taking corners from what I remember.
  8. Is Souness the 5th manager in 18 months that Owen has seen sacked - Houllier, 3 at Madrid? and now Souness. Never mind the mockers, Owen should come with a health warning
  9. I don't think £11m is unrealistic - we paid a lot of money for a top class midfielder and he has lived up to his billing. I think I'm right in saying he's not first pick for the Spanish side yet.
  10. No he wasn't Kenyan - from Hightown though I think. (Was that a serious question?)
  11. Reminds me of an old heap of a car I had which I was pushing down the road one day coz it was knackered and a car dealer I knew saw me and offered me a swap - my heap of junk for this perfectly OK car of his. I bit his hand off and to this day I haven't got a clue why he did it.
  12. When was the last time we played them in the FA Cup at Anfield? I can remember the League cup in the 80's vat Anfield, a semi final in the 80's at Goodison/maine road and the game at OT in 99, but never one at Anfield
  13. I think I will pass. Thanks for helping clear it up in my mind.
  14. I have been offered a ticket in the Man U end with a friend on the understanding that I don't show my support for Liverpool - if we score I have to just sit there and say nothing. Not sure if I can do this, or want to do this. Any advice.
  15. Is it just me or does that not sound too promising for Pongolle?
  16. I would extend that to 1990 - wasn't he joint top scorer with Rush on 28 goals? Never got to see kenny in his prime but Barnes is far and away the best I have seen at LFC - there was end product to virtually everything he did - especially in the 87/88 season. The buzz at Anfield whenever he got the ball was immense. It was gutting to see a shadow of that player from 92 to 97.
  17. Seem to remember Rush getting sent off against Man City at Anfield once after the match had finished.
  18. Pissed me off as well. He's far too honest for his own good.
  19. His stats were in the paper yesterday - something like 28 goals over the last 4 seasons! Not earth shattering.
