In summary for me: He's entitled to leave, even in this manner, and I don't think it's incumbent on him to ensure the club get a fee for him. I'm entitled to be pissed off with him simply because he's leaving, even if it were in a different manner, and I don't think it's incumbent on me to give him any positive recognition for the rest of his time here. Like I get that in many ways it is such a minor thing but you don't get to make that LOLZ Google ad and then make out you've conducted yourself with dignity and discretion and that there is part of you that has a heavy heart or something. You just don't. He's made an absolute divvy of himself and it is going to taint him and there isn't much of a way back. I'd think he mustn't be bothered but then he's still giving it the whole bit about how much he loves the club so I can only assume that he is really, really thick/badly advised/greedy. The only thing that would bother me about a negative reaction to him at the parade or whatever is not any impact it would have on him but more just how it would sour the general mood so for that reason alone I'd get him gone ASAP. If the stuff he says is true then even winning a load more at Madrid wouldn't be as fulfilling as what he's done here. Players obviously like them cos they tend to win loads of trophies but there is definitely also a sense in which going there is seen as meaning you transcend the game or something. If that's your bag, sound - it's why they are perfect for someone like Ronaldo but why someone like Gerrard, for all his faults, knocked them back.
