Isn't it also about what happens if/when the mega-rich owners walk away or turn off the tap? The rules are also there to stop clubs going bust with all the impact the would have on the staff at every level of the club.

I don't get why there is any chat whatsoever of people feeling sorry for City fans and players. They all knew exactly what this was built and even if stuff gets officially stripped from them they'll stick to their 'We didn't cheat but if we did then it was right to but we didnt' and still have all the memories of the moments when they 'won' stuff. All just reminds me of Ben Stiller in Extras saying 'It still counts!'
