    I think they have a massively skewed and conflicted sense of self. They want the 'Geordie Nation' to be all rock and roll but they also crave acceptance and so are actually MOR easy listening. They'd never commit to it by booing the anthem or anything I don't reckon. Dunno, they just do my head in generally.

    About Newcastle? The short version is that they want to be/think they are us even though success aside, there is an existential difference between the two clubs and cities which can probably most simply be encapsulated in something like the difference between the heart-on-sleeve edginess of Jonh Lennon and the needy knowingness of Ant and Dec. Then wanting to be us is the reason loads of Blues I know hate them as well, ironically.
