You see, I don't think that is a problem - quite the opposite in fact. The thing that actually impressed me about him the most was that he doesn't need to skin the fullback in order to get a quality cross in - he just uses his quick feet to get half a yard and then whips the ball in early. That is much, much harder to defend against in many ways than being up against someone who you know is going to try and run you. Good full backs can generally deal with that against all but the very, very best players. To get the most out of him, we will need to start anticipating his early crosses better. I'm sure Fowler would have been licking his lips last night as he always got bagfulls of goals from assists out wide - McManaman, Bjornebye, Collymore, even Rob Jones. All in all, a very impressive debut. He looks a proper footballer.
