More likely we were just slower than Chelsea and didn't follow up quick enough. Most of our initial efforts this summer were directed at Torres. It seemed like we weren't going to conduct any other transfer negotiations in parallel, only after Torres signed.

Fair point. We've probably decided not to pay the £20M and/or not even bother negotiating.

Malouda was clearly one of our first enquiries this summer. I think that says a lot about how much Rafa wanted him. I don't see how Leo can say that we weren't exactly knocking down the door for him. There's no way he could know. I also find it strange that Rafa hasn't gone back to his first choice targets from previous summers like Simao & Alves....

Got proof of that have you? Lyon were asking for a lot more than that... As far as I can tell, he had a choice between us & them. For very some perfectly good reasons he chose them. No shame in admitting that.
