Nah. He's clearly very gifted technically, but think like Elliott his lack of size and athleticism will see him fall between stools in the PL. Small, slow technical lads can overcome that in midfield in the modern PL if they know how to control the tempo of a game, like a Modric, Mac Allister or latter day Scholes, but haven't seen much evidence of Mainoo doing that so far.

Hope it was the big fella in the sunglasses. A real cool guy.

In fairness, McConnell does look a good player and suited to Ajax. Never got the excitement about Clark, didn't seem to offer much other than being neat and tidy.

Doesn't a formal transfer request mean you give up the right to any loyalty bonus payment when you leave? Think I read recently that a cut of that goes to the agent too, all of which could explain why Isak hasn't done it and probably won't. Players in general rarely do. Mad that you can agitate for a move through the press etc but still get paid for your "loyalty" when your club caves and sells you.

He's so young that I'm worried he could actually be named after Rio Ferdinand.

Had to go back and check I actually said this. Feeling smug today.

Early days, still adapting, still young, but hoping this lad isn't going to get sucked into the Riise-Enrique-Moreno vortex of dim LFC left-backs.
-
He would be mad to sign a deal with a release clause that high. I doubt we'd spend that figure now, so I don't see us or anyone else paying it when he's about to turn 27.
-
For Arsenal I'd be tempted to shift him from the 10 to the left, get him a bit more time and space, and stick Szobo back in the 10 so he can sit on Zubimendi all game to prevent him dictating the rhythm.

NUFC trying to replace Callum Wilson with both Wissa and Strand Larsen. 150 minutes apiece they’ll get.

Always said Arteta was one more CB-FB hybrid away from winning the league.

Did wonder, after it came out that it was agreed Eze would play Palace's first European game before any move to Spurs or Arsenal, whether something similar might be going on with Guehi.

The actual line in the Joyce article is, "[Slot] referenced neither Harvey Elliott nor the 16-year-old left winger Rio Ngumoha, who sparkled in pre-season to such an extent that Liverpool have said they would rather create a pathway for him than sign Bradley Barcola or Malick Fofana." No mention of Rodrygo, of course, but this seems like laying the groundwork for Isak or nothing next week, while preparing us for the eventuality that it could indeed be nothing: "Liverpool have a week to seal the Sweden striker’s arrival before the transfer window closes, or they could decide to switch to another target. "However, it is clear that the strategy of the club’s powerbrokers, the sporting director Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, chief executive of football for the Liverpool owner, Fenway Sports Group, would not be to buy someone simply to boost numbers." A game of Danny Ward/Alisson-style misdirection, perhaps, but there's just as much form for leaving things be and heading into a season with the squad short. Assume Guehi still happens, mind.

Apparently had his heart set on Madrid and Real were using that to force the price down. Then Utd came in offering a mad salary for a teenager and his advisers told him to go to Old Trafford instead. Can't think why. Don't think we were ever seriously involved because we weren't prepared to do what Utd did to turn his head from Madrid, and rightly so. -
Donnarumma is still only 26, young for a keeper. He’s even younger than Kelleher by a few months. Feels like he’s older because he was in the Milan team at 16.

“Man Utd are back!” etc.

I'm not sure all of City's recent signings are Guardiola types, which I suspect has something to do with Begiristain going and Viana – who isn't from the Barca school – coming in. I think City are laying the groundwork for life after Pep in 2026-27.
-
Yeah, think if he does kick on he could end up an Oblak-type, which wouldn't exactly be a terrible outcome.

The lad did step on his toe, would expect any of our lads to go over in that circumstance too. -
Early days, but I suspect Mamadashvili is a bit more of a big, good shot stopper who isn't that comfortable with the ball at feet type, which could prove interesting whenever Ali does leave. Think Slot wants a keeper who is comfortable on the ball. Mama can still develop, but I'd say that kind of thing tends to be a bit more innate in goalkeepers.
