Agree with all of that, amazed people are picking Downing over Coutinho no matter which way they seem to be thinking. Think if this 'value for money; thing is to be believe then a squad player costing us £80k a week isn't what we'll be looking at. Downing has been alright lately, not amazing at all, just alright.

Yep agreed and think a team with our number 10 in has more of a chance than one that doesn't, will be interesting to see what he does go with... His pressing is very good looking at his stats etc though... Just think we've had more chance of winning the game with him starting than if he didnt.

I'd play both, but if we were to play one then don't quite get the argument for playing Downing ahead of him. Think playing your best players is better than playing players who are not as good.

Ha just seen that. Deffo agree Downing's form has picked up, not seen him anything against a decent team for us since Arsenal in one of his first few games. Think Coutinho is a better player, think everyone does, so I'd play him. Him, Sturridge and Suarez together are where it is at, we have a very exciting front three, don't think Downing comes close to those. Team is better with Coutinho in it too

Loads slag off Downing for being s***. We sign a new attacking player who looks great. Loads of people would prefer to start Downing than said new attacking player who looks great. Nuts.

Imagine if we had of had Sturridge and Coutinho in the games we have played previously against 'the top six' and against Villa at home and against WBA at home, I think we'd have seen much more positive results and this deffo bodes well for next season. Just a shame we have to wait another 10 games and a whole summer for it cause I'm excited for the start of the new season in August already.

Should have beaten WBA, smashed them with all those shots etc and missed a pen. We didn't turn up for the Villa game, was a shocker that one. Deserved to get beat at Spurs. Sturridge and Coutinho didn't start in any of those three games, really do think those signings have made us a different team already.

Will never agree with not starting Coutinho in this. Played really well the last two games, great attacking asset and link up play with Sturridge and Suarez already looks good. If you want to play an extra mid then surely Coutinho starts ahead of Downing? If he does that mean that people think Downing is a better option than him? Really?

It was a f***ing good game though. Think we could be on to something with that system and I don't think leaving one of your top three attacking players (Coutinho) out of a home game is all that progressive, especially with how he has played in the previous two, would be surprised if Rodgers did it too. As Fred says, it will be Lucas on Bale and you have Enrique on Lennon and Enrique is fast. Gerrard to provide further protection in the middle against Bale too. I think we have more chance of winning with that side. Coutinho is more effective than Downing and we are at home, saying that I'd play them both.

I'm getting excited about this side. I think getting one more top level attacking player in the summer and a back up striker to replace Sturridge when he isnt fit etc, whether that is Borini or someone else and we could be away as an attacking team. There are obviously big questions about our CBs, but we also have Kelly and Wisdom who, if anything, are more CBs than RBs and could turn out great given the chance.

I think we should player the team that smashed Swansea 5-0 and concentrate on our own game and scoring goals. You wouldn't see other teams, Spurs included, throwing an extra CM in there. With Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez and then Downing holding wide we looked like we found a real attacking formula that works and we are at home. As good as they have been playing recently, I think we need to go out there and look to win the game pure and simple, I'm all for going away to the Barcelona and keeping it tight ready for the second leg (remember those days?), but at home in the league we should be taking the initiative and in Lucas and this more disciplined Gerrard and the pressing from the front four it looks good.

No only that but the results were agreeable. Now imagine that team with a world class or top level player in for downing, who can run dead fast, shoot dead good and dribble and pass and then start to dream, it's a nice dream.

Kelly could be included as a 'new CB' as could Wisdom, both big, quick and love to f***ing defend.
