Your calculations are all wrong - Carroll has gone on LOAN, this means that there is no way he can lose or gain in value, it means it stays exactly the same, you could almost use the word 'preserves', if you so wished.

I'd agree, I quite liked the system when we had Henderson mythering the opposition for the ball in front of those two away from home, it looked it it was working, Allen was excellent at Wigan in this role too.

This is the question. Where do you think he should go? Should he stay where he is alongside Lucas? I'd play him every game against the weaker oppo at home in this new attacking formation - but what about when we play 4-3-3 and try to control the game? Do both he and Lucas fit or would we be better off in this system with an technically gifted energetic destroyer?

Or an energetic destroyer to play alongside Lucas?

What about if we got Rafa back in and signed Aquilani?

High earners in doubt: Pepe, Carra (going), Henderson, Downing, Srtkel Wouldn't be surprise if a few of them went...

I'd keep both Allen and Henderson. Both could be very effective in that middle CM role if we get proper DM and attacking midfielder for years. We need to get the balance of the midfielder right before they become effective though and I think we some way off yet.

At least Williams actually likes to defender and knows Rodgers way of playing from the back (feel free to throw your Allen and Borini's back at me). He is more solid than Srtkel.

I think all that is missing is when to play like this (at home against weaker sides) and when to play Brendan's original way and control the game (away and against better sides at home), that and rediscovering the ability to f***ing defend.

The worry is we have such an obvious need at the back that CM might get overlooked and I really don't think we can afford it to be. I also think we need a top attacking player to replace Downing as a first 11 player. Will Lucas get back to where he was before the injury? Has Gerrard got the legs for this system? Allen and Henderson would both benefit greatly from a balanced midfield and I think we are some way off that yet. Strootman and Wanyama would be excellent, but both would cost a fair whack, throw in the Downing replacement and at least two CBs and it just isnt going to happen. Sissoko for £1.7m in January seems like the kind of player we needed and for such a ridiculous fee.

No, you're right it isnt 4-2-4, but seen a few posters call it this and as we were discussing Saturday etc... I think your point in bold is great and exactly the type of change we needed to make - Lucas for Downing for me and possibly Henderson for Allen after that if Allen didnt pick up, that would have given us three in the middle and a tighter control of the game - I guess he was thinking we need to score at least two goals to win the game and went gung ho, but it didnt come off.

That 4-2-4 lets you have four really attacking players on the pitch plus Gerrard. I think the 4-3-3 lets you control games more, particularly with the type of midfielders we have, not sure it is more attacking than the above tho? Agree on Saturday, the negative side of our season in one game.

Correct - the impact that result has had on everyone is immense. Should have started with Lucas and with a midfielder three, will he learn? His job in the long run will depend on it. Think he is almost there and that it is pretty simple: At home against teams who come for a point and are scared to attack: Play this new look 4-2-4. Away and against the 'better' teams at home: Play his 4-3-3 with an extra man in there, one of Henderson / Allen. Job is a good one.

I think we need two new CMs in the summer, maybe three. A proper energetic destroyer who can pass (this could be Henderson with a bit of adaption), a specialist defensive holding player and an attacking centre mid player. Dont think our midfield has any balance and fits in to what we Rodgers is trying to do at all. PS: I dont think we'll sign any.

He's a very good player, I wouldn't mind seeing us get him at all.

If we slag him off for everything then no one can say we haven't been fair.
