Anfield officials are disappointed but do not believe he is leaving Liverpool for a job elsewhere. This development follows the departure of Michael Edwards, his predecessor as sporting director, in May which was a significant blow to the club. Edwards also cited a desire to take a break when his contract expired and has turned down numerous job offers since then, including interest from Chelsea.
