Didi Hamman wanted to leave so he could get more games at what is the tail end of his career and he is not exacly putting in MOM performances for Man City. Hyypia will move on for the same reasons probably. They are both heading for their mid 30's, the game is getting quicker and quicker and they need to be replaced at some stage. I think they are the 2 best signings Houllier made and we wouldn't be where we are now without their contribution but we keep moving forward and if takes a bit of pain to get there then so be it.

I disagree, they would have weakened the side and we wouldn't have got the results we did. Pennant looked fairly good in a very poor Brum side, yet he looks completely out of his depth when asked to play in a side where there is pressure to perform. Gonzalez looks an average talent. I watched him a number of times last season in La Liga and wasn't exactly excited by what he might bring to our side, he is certainly no better a player than Harry Kewell. He gets the basics wrong on far too many occasions.

Kewell is a very good player, one of the best in the squad and has shown it on many occasions. Gonzalez is nowhere near his level yet and I haven't seen too much from him yet to suggest he will get near it.
